sashing embellishment

I have pre cut 3 inch sashing and would like to add large ric rac. Add ric rac and sash or add ric rac after? In the past I've had some puckering with the large ric rac . Thanks everyone you're so helpful every time.

depends if you want only 1/2 to show--zig zag away from seam but straight seam--versus zig zag in both directions.

If you have had puckering, try your walking foot. At the last guild I belonged to, I was known as the rick rack lady. I love to use rick rack in my quilts.

I'm quoting you mean you will run the rick rack down the center of the sash. I think I would add it before before I sashed. It seems it would be easier to control. And you could chain piece all the sashing at once.

I have never used ric-rac on one of my quilts but am thinking about doing so on a strip quilt I am planning. Please post a picture of your finished quilt.

very interested in seeing what it looks like... I bet it will be a fun addition to your quilt. At first I agreed with Tessbug about applying the ric rac to your sash first, but you may want to test a piece first because in my mind I'm wondering if the edges of your 3 inch sash (once the ric rac has been sewn) becomes wavy?

I used red ric rac on a red and white quilt I made. I always wash my fabrics prior to sewing, but I didn't think to prewash the ric rac. It bled all over my quilt. Lesson learned (the hard way). I always prewash ric rac now.

Another think about ric rac. It doesn't keep its shape after washing. It folds in half on the sewing line and looks like c____. I would sew down both sides, catching the points, or free motion quilt a zig zag down the line, hitting the points.

If I were going to sew the ric rak to the sashing, I would use a stablizer under the sashng.
