Sashing

I've gathered quite a few feed sacks and have started the quilt. Decided on a simple 9 patch and the finished block will be 12" because I wanted the pieces large enough to really appreciate the fabric. I need to decide what I want to use for sashing before I go any further. Should I use the feed sacks that aren't in the blocks for sashing to make a really scrappy looking type quilt or use all of the feed sacks in the blocks and use muslin as the sashing? Would the muslin make things stand out too much? What do you think? How wide would you make the sashing?

I would use 1.5-2 inch sashing in muslin if you want to bring order out of what can become chaotic in a hurry...good luck!

I think the muslin sounds good to. It will make your blocks stand out more. Be sure and post a pic when you are done!

I would also use muslin sashing at 2.5". Please be sure to preshrink the muslin. Depending on the mfg., it can really shrink.

I made a churn dash quilt out of scrappy feed sack material and added bubblegum pink solid borders with white setting blocks. It really set all the scrappy colors off! I posted it here, but I don't know how to add a link!! You could look under my profile and check my started threads-I think the title has 'feed sack' in it! It might add more pizzaz than muslin, but I don't know what all your fabrics look like together. Anyway, have fun and it will be lovely when you are done.

You got the feed sacks for $1!!!!!!!!! I'm never, ever in the right place at the right time. LOL!! Your quilt is beautiful and I see what you mean about the white.

IF you can locate some- use the white feedsack ( flour bags) for sashing.. It'll make the feedsacks pop and it will all be the same 'material' throughout the quilt..
