My grandson's baby quilt has scalloped edges. Why? Because I wanted to try the technique. He has had it for 6 months and appears to still be a boy, so no harm done.

I also like the idea of the points. But..........Lisa I love your answer. BrendaK

Haa!! Too funny!

I don't see a problem with scallops on a boy's quilt.

My son looked at me like I was crazy and told me those curvey edges are girlie. What do you think? Its a quilt for a baby, will the scallop edging make it a girlie quilt? ( I have only made one scallop edge quilt so I was looking forward to the practice.. but I don't want to make it a girlie quilt for a little boy)

A scalloped edge feels a bit more refined to me. Prairie corners would be a good choice IMO!

I have never put a scallops edges on a boys quilt. Never really gave it any thought. Friend told me once not to put any red Rick Rack on a boy's quilt because it was too girlie but I did anyways and came out like I had planned.

Yes, prairie points would probably be a better choice.

Scallops as wheels. That could be very doable. And would look great on a car or truck or heavy equipment quilt.

You could also use jumbo ric rac. Sew it around the edge of quilt making sure it will peek out... then bind as usual. Adorable on baby quilts!

LynnG - never thought of jumbo ric rac. I may check into that.. if not for this quilt there will always be more quilts :)

Or instead of scallops you could make V points on the edges. Just point each scallop instead of rounding it.

I'm with your son on this one.
