Scalloped border question
 

Can I do a scalloped border without mitering the corners, or would I hang funny? It will have to match up to a pinwheel if I miter it, and that seems tricky. Here's the corner (outer border isn't attached yet). [ATTACH=CONFIG]527861[/ATTACH]

I agree with Tartan. You don't have to miter the corner but just be carefully that you figure out the width of your curves and the numbers needed. I usually mark my curved corners first and the do the math at how many curves and the width of the curve.

i have done 2 scalloped border quilts and neither one had mitered corners. Go for it

I didn't miter the corners on the one I did, either. I used Eleanor Burns' ruler for scallops and wavy lines, can't think of the exact name. It came with very helpful instructions and made it pretty easy for me without having to do any math for myself. :) Also used the McCalls.com free video instructions for making the bias binding which is required for a scalloped border. It worked really well for me. I used a stripe for the binding and was so pleased how it turned out. It was fun. Good luck with yours!

and always sew the scallop line before cutting the excess border off. sew and add binding, then trim. Good luck.

Thank you! I am so glad I don't have to miter the corner on this quilt. I have done mitered corners before, but I know those little striped scallops would drive me batty if they didn't match up, and I don't have extra fabric if I mess up. I was also dreading attaching a diagonal seam to the corner of the pinwheel that was on the bias. Whew! Glad to avoid that! I appreciate the great advice.
