Scalloped Borders??

I'm almost there. I had the scallops measured, evenly, cut, bias border, looks horrible. I took it out!! Is there a secret??

I've always assumed the scallops are cut after the quilt is quilted. I may be wrong about that.

I have not done a scalloped border on a quilt, but I do sew a lot clothing and therefor I recommend this alternative. Finish them with a facing. Cut a strip wide enough to cover the depth of the scallops, put right sides together and stitch. Clip in or use pinking shears and turn the facing towards the back side. Turn under and handsew (or stitch by machine, if you don't mind seeing the stitches on the front).

Can you be more specific about the problem?

Heather Mulder Peterson has written up some tips for scallops here:

LOL, after reviewing her tutorial, I did EVERYTHING wrong!! Do not cut the scallops first!!!! Just draw them out and sew the binding first! Make a pleat on the inside of the dip when machine sewing the binding. When hand-sewing to the back, pin each miter (dip in scallop) until hand sewn or it will relax out after you pass the dip. Thank you Peckish for the tutorial, just what I needed!!!!!!

I tried scallops as well, and did fmq the quilt first--then cut the scallops--but still had some problems trying to space them so the corners turned out right...not an easy thing for me.
