Is it hard to long-arm a quilt that has a scalloped border?
Please explain process.

the scallop is not cut until the LA quilting is done.

the LA will actually stitch the scallop border then when you get it back just cut close to the scallop stitching line and put on your binding.

the only way I've done it was you don't cut the scallops until after you quilt. So when you load it on the frame, it's a straight border, with the scallops marked. I did it this way because it was the only way I could think of. I'd really like to hear from others. Hopefully there's another way!

another note.

discuss this with your LA before hand so that you have enough of the final border fabric on the top to all for her to stitch the scallop edge yet along with some extra breathing room.

i can typically work with an extra inch all the way around.

Not positive, since I'm not a LA quilter, but I would think you'd send it to them square or rectangle and they quilt it, then you trim the scallops after. You'd probably have to mark them somehow. I'm sure someone more informed will respond.

Exactly!

On YouTube tuts I've seen on scalloped borders the quilting was already done before the scallops were cut out. If you wanted the quilting to be custom fitted to the scallop rather than extend to the end of the original border (which would get cut off) I'd discuss that with your LAQ.

I have a quilt top of my own that has the border
already cut with scallops?????? What to do?

One solution is to remove and replace the border. Annoying and expensive but will work.
