School Letters on Quilt

I have been asked to make a t-shirt quilt for my grandson. They also want his athletic letters sewn to the quilt. I am wondering if these 'felt/chenille letters are washable. Should I sew them on to a pillow or what other choices are there to do with them.

Can you sew on some snaps so they could be removed for washing?

Thinking back 25+ years ago about my Varsity letter - I recall it being very stiff and would likely not wash well and I also think it would be uncomfortable to sleep on. What about a wall hanging?

I also think you would run in problems due to their thickness and what they are made from. Sometimes non-sewers are not aware of these things and as long you know how to use a sewing machine, people think you can do anything. I also think the idea of making a wall hanging is good.

That's brilliant!

You could also take a picture of the letter and print the pic on treated fabric for use in the quilt. The actual letter could then be used on a pillow or mounted in a frame.

They are not washable. Do not wash it! Trust me, that's how I ruined mine. What my mom did for our letterman's jackets was to sew Velcro on the back of the letter and on the jacket. Easy to rip off when the jacket had to be cleaned and then put back on later.
