School starts soon - time to buy more quilting supplies!
It's amazing what we can buy for our quilt studios from the school supplies. I just bought 3 glue sticks for 25 cents and a pencil sharpener with both large and small holes - I'm going to keep it with my chalk pencils.
Last year I bought several see through school boxes in different colors. Makes great little project boxes. I have one just for applique with applique scissors, needles, pins etc. plus small pin cushion. Couple of years ago I was able to buy pencil boxes for about 10 cents each - great for rotary cutters. Few years ago I bought a small plastic 3 drawer container with a place on top for for misc items. I keep my nice needle threader on top with a thimble. Little drawers are just the right size to store needles for both hand sewing and machine. Have a pencil organizer that I have my scissors and fabric markers in. Notebooks, binders, folders, clear plastic inserts all great buys right now. Great way to keep track of projects. Who else shops in the school supply area for sewing, quilting supplies? If so, what do you find that's useful? |
Oh yes, yes, yes.....great fun...like a candy store...............

I need to go back there. They have a magnetic screw holder that is cheaper than the magnetic needle holder at the quilt store. It only comes in silver not the pretty colors that the quilt store has. So much shopping - so little time. |
Thanks for the tips. Great ideas... I never thought of doing that!

Don't forget Elmer's washable school glue! It's the greatest for holding pieces of fabric together. Just add a tiny dot of glue, press the piece into place against another piece and dry iron it for a couple of seconds. Holds fabric in line and washes out when you wash the finished quilt!
Short rulers can also be handy for quick checks or estimations. |
Just stocked up on elmers glue and a few binders to hold patterns.

Now's also a good time to get them their own scissors. Place a few around the house to keep them from snitching yours! I have not seen the Elmers spray glue. I will keep a look out for that one. The school bottles were 50 cents each I should probably get some fresh ones. |
Don't forget those plastic page protectors. My youngest had to have them when he was in band to hold his sheet music. They are a lot better than those old ones with the black paper inserts! They are great for magazine articles/patterns.
