I want to learn to applique, and I was wondering if there was a style of scissors that works better for cutting out appliques. Any advice?

I have Gingher applique scissors. It makes a big difference. Get them at Joann's next time they are on sale or with a coupon if not.

You need small sharp to the point scissors for clipping curves and Vs.

Small so you can manipulate them and
Sharp so they cut accurately the first time....

I have long fingers and fairly large hands so I use a very sharp pair with small blades and large handles. They do exist!

(Why do they make the handles smaller for smaller bladed scissors? My hands can't change size!)

What Brand and where did you find them?

I originally had a pair of Fiskars that I bought at Joann's. However, they are currently in hiding.

I recently bought a pair with blue handles at a quilt shop. They cost about $15. Well worth it. I'd take a picture but they are at a slumber party at my friend's house.

Clover makes a small blue handled slightly serrated edge scissor that works great. When the fabric frays slightly the serrated edge helps with that. Karen Kay Buckley uses these and sells them also to help those who have taken classes with her. Actually Clover makes 2 sizes of these and I prefer the smaller ones. Scissors is one thing you don't want to waste money on- get the best you can afford and take care of them and they will be your BBF for years.

I really like my yellow olfa serrated scissors. When i took classes from jeanna kimball (appliquer extraordinaire) she recommended the gingher blunt nose scissors for cutting away behind the applique pieces. Less chance of poking into thr applique part. I have larger and smaller ones. They look like little kid scissors but are really sharp. I think i bought the larger ones on ebay. I find myself using them a lot of the time. The exact name is safety point pocket scissors. They are great
