Scissors

Can any recommend their favourite scissors, maybe Ginghers or similar - ( for quilting/ patchwork )
I would like to treat myself to a really nice pair.
Thanks

Karen Kay Buckley has come out with a line called Perfect Scissors. They have serrated blades which cut fabric like butter. They come with a plastic cover for the blades. I absolutely love them. They are the bee's knees.

I love my Ginghers! I love the classic look, the heavy feel, and of course, that they slice through fabric like it's nothing.

lfletcher 07-23-2012 07:10 AM

I like Ginghers and Kai with Kai being my favorite. I haven't tried Karen Kay Buckley's but I've heard they're good.

I love my Ginghers but don't really use them that often as I always grab for my rotary cutter. They are so expensive these days, must go with a coupon at Joanns. Also have a super cheap pair of scissors in your sewing room for cardboard and such to protect your 'good scissors'...Does any one know a good scissor sharpening service. Can we send our scissors to Ginghers ???

crafty pat 07-23-2012 07:20 AM

I use the Ginghers and love them, would not be without them.

fairydawn 07-23-2012 07:23 AM

Ginghers! I Have 4 different kinds and sizes.

Emily'sMom 07-23-2012 07:24 AM

I have every make of scissors, Kai are my favorite!

Joset 07-23-2012 07:48 AM

i really like my ginghers i have three of them

Peckish 07-23-2012 07:53 AM

I'm with Emily's Mom, I have about 20 pairs of scissors from all different manufacturers, and my Kai scissors are by far my favorite! FYI, they also have the serrated blades which grip the fabric as you cut, so there's no slipping.

My favorites by far are Gingher. All of mine are the original design (none of the light weight ones) except for a pair of pretty designer embroidery scissors. I also have a pair of Elan's serrated scissors, and for some applications they are perfect - but they're not my "go to" ones.

Scissor Queen 07-23-2012 09:28 AM

Elan are great for serrated blade scissors. Otherwise, Gingher, Dovo, Bohin, and Solingen are all great scissors.

I LOVE my Ginghers. I have several pairs, including pinking shears, spring loaded regular scissors, and a 4" pair for snipping threads. My original pair is 25+ years and still as sharp as ever. I am careful to cut only fabric with my Ginghers.

bearisgray 07-23-2012 09:53 AM

Sometimes one can get good buys on Ginghers through e-bay.

It's worth a look!

I love my Ginghers. Need to check out the other brands mentioned here.

My favorites are Dovo and Heritage. They get special handling. Honestly I have Ginghers in my kitchen drawer. It's so nice to have great scissors for utility use. If a pair of scissors won't cut a package top then what good are they?

CajunQuilter2 07-23-2012 05:47 PM

I have my Ginghers...Have never heard of Kai or Karen Kay Buckley, will have to check them out.

Yakkity 07-23-2012 05:56 PM

All the scissors I own are Ginghers. I love the feel and balance of them and they are just meant to last. They seem to have something for every sewing/quilting need. Plus they do a fine job of cutting too.

Becky Crafts 07-23-2012 06:02 PM

My Gingher's 8" dressmaker scissors are my favorite & I hide them beside me at all times. Those are my personal scissors & not subject to being borrowed. ;-)

spokanequilter 07-23-2012 06:15 PM

Gingher's, definitely Gingher's.....and woe to the member of my household who steals them from my studio to cut anything but fabric!!

PolkaBabe 07-23-2012 06:16 PM

I'd go with the Gingher, I have a couple & love them, in fact I also have one of the same quality that is a Singer.

mucky 07-23-2012 06:19 PM

Have had Ginghers for at least 40 years. I sent them back to the company once for sharpening.

BellaBoo 07-24-2012 07:15 PM

Ginghers are not as expensive as they use to be. I think I paid about $25 for 8" metal dressmaker and about $12 for the molded handle Ginghers. Having several pair in the desk and kitchen drawer keeps the family from ever looking for the 'good' scissors. The pair I have in the kitchen have cut everything and still sharp after many years.

patchsamkim 07-24-2012 07:19 PM

For tip sharpness, I love my Dovo scissors...for cutting I do like Gingher, abut use my Fiskar soft-touch scissors the most ...they are easier on my hand which had surgery many years ago.

BarbaraA 07-24-2012 08:15 PM

I love my gingher designer scissors. They are so pretty, they just make me happy! Sounds silly, I know.

Pat625 07-24-2012 08:24 PM

I just bought my first pair of Ginghers!! Of course I used a 50% off coupon! before the coupon they were 38.00...Now I hate to actually use them...don't want to dull them!! LOL

Quilt-Till-U-Wilt 07-25-2012 02:49 AM

I have Fiskars. They weren't real expensive and I like the weight of them. Some of the scissors are heavy.

kacklebird 07-25-2012 03:36 AM

Love my Ginghers too :)

DottyD 07-25-2012 04:17 AM

Thanks everyone for your replies and Ginghers certainly seem to be favourite ! I am going to a big quilt festival here in the UK next month, so I will be looking out for them !!
hugs, DottyD.

Check out Fanmore brand scissors. Usually there is a vendor booth at most big shows. They are very good scissors. They sell the famous blue handle scissors but I think have changed the color to dark red.
