There are specialty scissors to cut rag quilts. I did one and didn't like doing all that cutting. I looked for previous posts but couldn't find the name of scissors.

There are scissors that have a spring in them that I used when I did rag quilts, reminding me that I wonder where those are. :D It makes a big difference as all that cutting is hard on your hand. In the link is a picture of these scissors. http://www.craftideas.info/html/colo...g_quilt_e.html

You definitely want the spring loaded scissors. I have used Fiskar's, but my favorite are the ones from Heritage Cutlery. http://www.amazon.com/Heritage-Cutle.../dp/B0008F6R9U

I second the Heritage Cutlery snips. They are the best I've found for snipping rag quilts. I can snip a king size rag quilt in one sitting with these and not have hurting hands. The spring is strong, blades are sharp and the snips are heavy to do the work. I would buy them if I planned on doing only one small rag quilt. Many online sites have them and usually on sale.
