Score or Dud?

Hubby and I are new to the quilting world. Today, at a garage sale, he found a Easy Quilter Wooden Frame for $2.00. Has anyone used one of these? Comments please. Thank you.

Is it oval? A lot of the cheap wooden floor quilting frames are oval and were really designed for other types of needlework. Some people use them for hand quilting, but they tend to be unstable and sometimes cannot handle a thicker quilt.

You can tell a lot from the quality of the wood. If it's thin and light in weight, chances are it was an inexpensive frame to begin with.

I used to have a big oval one on a stand (it was pretty cheap when I bought it new). The quilt never seemed to hold the right tension for hand quilting. It kept loosening up. I much preferred the hoop you hold on your lap.

I always use a oval hoop (I have 2 sizes) in my lap for hand quilting. Usually the large ones are sturdy enough.

It depends on whether you are going to do hand quilting or not. Many people machine quilt in which case you wouldn't need something like this. I somehow ended up with two of the oval floor stands. I gave one of them to a friend and the other one is hanging up from the rafters in the garage. I don't do much hand quilting anymore. When I did use it I found I had to put my feet on the cross piece on the floor to hold it steady enough.

This is a frame that is on movable casters, open on one side and it slides around your sewing machine. It has hooks that hold a rolled up quilt top. I think it is used for FM Quilting.

If you have what I think you have, you scored. I just read a positive review on this item. For two bucks, you got a real deal. Happy quilting.

If it is the one I am thinking of, the price when new was about $75. I think you scored!

Is this similar to what you purchased? http://easyquilter.com/h_directions_sewing.htm

I don't think you can go wrong for $2!

If it's this one, it's a definite SCORE! I tried one out at a quilt show and loved it, but it's not made anymore. It's a great way to get started in frame quilting (where you move the machine instead of the quilt).

Edit: There are some great posts on the QB about how to modify this setup.

From what I can see, you really did score with that find. If you want to FMQ, it looks like that is what you want. If you are going to hand quilt, I'm still a fan of the smaller 12" round wood quilting hoops. I want to know where you do your yard sale shopping????

I'll give you 4.00 for it! You'll double your money and make me a VERY happy lady :)

If it is the one in picture, it is a great buy. I bought one similar years ago and paid 500.00 for it.
