I take them to the art teacher at my school. When she teaches quilting to the 8th graders, they need about 12" square each.....

When you cut the strips of batting, butt the two pieces together and with the fusible tape it connects them without sewing. And no extra bulk and no stretching either!

I do the same, bigger pieces I use for quilts, the rest I trim according to size, use them for placemats, hot pads, pot holders, coasters, mug rugs, etc. I hate to throw anything away, I can always use it for something.

I started winding a wad around my hand and put into a bag then added over top of it in another direction etc and then realised I had the inner to a cushion! So I have made my own cushion wadding with my bits or I use them for doll quilts and small projects once I zig zag them together.

WHen I finish a project, I cut my leftover batting into as wide a strips and I can. I wind them around cardboard, and keep adding to it secure with a pin until I get more. I have cardboard that measures 18 inches, and keep a cardboard for each size. I save nothing smaller than one inch wide. I will zigzag them together when I make smaller projects or wallhangings that do not get wash very frequently.

I have seen the way I do it on some of the quilting TV shows. You overlap the batting and cut with a rotary cutter so that the edge is straight on both pieces. That way your batting should lay perfectly cut edge to cut edge. Then I use the light weight fusible interfacing (Cut into 2 to 3 inch strips) and then fuse with an iron. You can fuse both sides. I use it when I have accidentally cut the batting too short. Of course, you can ONLY use this method with cotton batting !!! :mrgreen:
