Scrap block info.
Can anyone figure out the pieces I need to cut for a block that is made of (I think )6 pieces ..the first 2 Are the same size
(2 or 2 1/2 inch) joined. Now I add pieces to the sides somehow so the resulting block will have no seams to match when joining to the next identical block. I have seen this, darn if I can find it or figure out this with my foggy brain. I thank anyone who can help. |
I think you are referring to boxed squares
https://www.quiltingboard.com/pictur...s-t213593.html if you turn every other block 90 degrees, you just match the corner seams. Center color: Start with a 2.5" center square. Surrounding color: Add a 2.5" square to both ends, then add two 6.5X2.5" strips to the opposite ends. |
do you have a picture or a block name? Would love to help you.

Thanks but that is not it....the rest of the pieces were each of different sizes.

Whenever I am in doubt I get out the 1/4" graph paper and draw the block actual size. This works especially well when your are working with just squares and rectangles. Once you have your block drawn you add your seam allowance and have your measurements. There are loads of websites with free downloads so you can print your own or you can pick it up at any Walmart. This time of year it is usually on sale for back to school.

My favorite scrappy quilt pattern. Quick, easy and no matching seams.

Are you thinking of a log cabin block?
|
And it can use up a lot of fabric each time it's made. I've used that pattern a lot of times.

I think you maybe looking for either “wonky blocks” or “yellow brick road”?

Has anyone tried this pattern with other fabric than batiks?

Here's one site with instructions and a couple non-batik examples: https://maryquilts.com/boxed-squares/ you can also search the pictures forum on this board for other examples. Pretty versatile pattern. You can use the same width strips for all the pieces (jelly roll friendly), or make the center larger or smaller for a different look. |
