How small are the smallest scraps you use on scappy quilts? I am working on a blue jean circle quilt and having smaller pieces of flannel left over not sure what to save and what not to save.

I've been using the leader and ender method of sewing http://www.quiltville.com/leadersenders.shtml so I use all my scraps, even the tiny pieces. When I saw how much yardage I had in my scrap pile after the scraps were sewn together I realized how much money would be wasted by not using the scraps. There are beautiful scrap quilts to be made after the design quilts are finished.

I save everything that's over a 1/4" wide :oops:

That quiltville lady is just too smart for her own good! I save scraps unless they are too small.

It is so good to see other quilters save all those small scraps. My daughter thought I was silly for keeping my small scraps. I told her one day I'm going to sew them all togeather.When I do maybe I'll give her what ever I make out of all those scraps.

My avatar is made up of many scraps I saved from other projects, and some strips that I cut too many of, and little tiny triangles that were cut off other projects ...
My biggest challenge in keeping scraps is when and how to get them into an actual quilt!
And, now I have more people giving me their scraps!

well, with me is: give it to Mary .. she will use it someplace <g>.
One time I was making a ton of flying geese and HST ... I took a little decorative jar and put all the "dog ears" into the jar, sealed it up when it was full and use it as a knick knack!

I forget just exactly how it was put, but someone said that scraps cost just as much as yardage, and you would not throw away your yardage, would you?

Thanks to everyone for their ideas and thoughts on this. I will check out the quiltville site. I have been seeing the leader and ender technique mentioned before just haven't sat and read through it to where I understand it yet. Very true Amma. I really like the look of the scrappy quilts, the other quilts just look like something I could mess up really bad. Don't get me wrong they are beautiful. Scrappy quilts seem more forgiving.

Hey, I do the same thing. I save all my little dog ears and put them in a jar. Well, jars now. I want to go buy one of those lamps that you can fill with stuff and fill it full of all the little dog ears I've saved over the years. My FIL (Father-in-law) said I should sell them in decorative jars & he'd pay $10 for it. Well, guess who got one of my full jars along with his quilt? He was thrilled and now whenever someone sees it they ask how they can get one. :?

I save anything that's about an inch. I plan on making a postage stamp quilt one day and I've got quite a collection of those little one inch squares.
