I have trouble finding patterns for scrap quilts. I got into quilting hoping to use up some of my scraps that have been piled around for years, Plus people who are moving or cleaning out there houses are always giving me fabric, which I can not turn down, but have trouble finding quilts that I can use just scraps in.

Hi Susan! :D I'm sure you'll be getting into as much "scrap-happy" trouble as I have. It's easier than you think! There are lots of good books out there, and the internet's a wealth of ideas. If you have a lot of odds and ends fabrics, maybe you're just overwhelmed. You might start by sorting your fabrics into different types (30's, novelty, florals, solids, whatever) Wash 'em, get 'em ironed and sorted. Once you see what you have to work with, take a peek at the sites the other quilters here have posted. If you like a certain style of block, or if the thought of turning those scraps into "strings" strikes your fancy, you'll be off and running before you know it!

I have a room full, can you imagine my surprise when a lady at church asked me if I could use some sack cloth, I figure way not I'll figure something to do with it. Little to my surprise when I opened the large bag and found all that beautiful fabric inside. Usally people give it to me in like trunk fulls.

Is "overwhelmed" the right word then? I thought it might be. When I see all the beautiful fabrics there are, and then all the wonderful patterns that have been designed for us to use, I wonder how any of us know where to begin. So many quilts, so little time! Well, you do sound very lucky to be gifted with trunks full of treasure. I know it sounds a little "zen" but the fabric came to you for a reason. It'll talk to you, and you'll do the rest! It happens to all of us.... Just smile and enjoy the process!

Crazy quilts and log cabins are good patterns for scraps. I perfer the log cabins. Easy sorting just lights and darks.
