I'm with kitzie, there is no rhyme or reason to my scrappy bindings. If it starts to look like one color is to long, I cut it down and reattach somewhere else. The bigger the quilt the longer the binding colors.

I just piece and if I have a long piece of fabric I will cut it to make it scrappier.

If I do a scrappy binding, I use random lengths so that when the binding comes together, it doesn't matter what length the pieces on each end are. They are all different lengths.

No rhyme or reason for me either. I keep a bin of leftover pieces of binding and just pull them out and stitch together until I have enough. I miter the ends of the strips and connect the ends this way and it doesn’t seem to matter if the seam ends up on a corner.

I've only done 2 quilts with scrappy bindings, and the strips were probably WOF.

I vary my lengths, making sure the corner pieces are plenty long before I sew them to the rest. I use short pieces for small quilts, long ones for bigger, but I don't measure them. Just 2.5" wide is my preference.

I did a scappy binding on my King quilt. I absolutely love the look! I just took various lengths and made them all 2.5 inches (my preference) and it went fine. I plan to do it again as I really like it.

I must be more structured as I would never dream of using varied segments. Ha! Love the scrappy look and frequently use leftover bindings for mine. Thanks to Iceblossom for the solids idea....love it!!

I don't remember but theses seem to be 4 or 5 inches as the squares are one inch finished.

I think I cut mine about 6 inches for this quilt. It is a small quilt about 50 x50".
