I think it is going to look fantastic. I like your color choices. You are on a time crunch, but it looks like a fairly simple small block. You should be able to make a bunch of them quickly. Are you planning on the greys for your sashing? If so, what would the cornerstones be? They might be a great place to stick a small spot of another color. Please post a pic when you get the top together.

Wow...I had to google the pattern to see what you were talking about, now that is a pretty pattern! And quite an ambitious project with only a few weeks left to the deadline. Let us know how it goes!

Here's some google images if you want to look at other color combinations. That's a beautiful quilt.

It is a beautiful design, and your colors sound really nice. I've been thinking of a black background with brights - scrappy.

I was going to suggest the Google image search also.

You asked about scrappy. My opinion is this would work as scrappy as long as the blocks are identical and symmetrical in color. Meaning, I don't think you could use blue in one corner of the block and red in another corner, I think they need to be the same.

I agree that to make a scrappy Mexican Star you would need to pay close heed to your color choices of shades and hews. Otherwise the pattern will get lost in the mayhem. I love scrappy quilts but this is not, in my humble opinion, the pattern for true scrappy.

I just finished the top, or my variation of it. I didn’t buy the pattern but just kind of reverse engineered it. It’s not as hard as it looks and turns out gorgeous. The first link is to my top before I turned back the triangles to make the curved edges:

It’s a great pattern and the first one I’ve wanted to make more than once. I didn’t go scrappy but I think a controlled-scrappy would look beautiful!
