I love the way others make perfect lines and squares and make all the colors match but I seem to be drawn to making the scrappy looking quilts. Are there any others that seem to like the scrappy look too?

Unique Creations 12-26-2010 07:26 PM

I have made all kinds of quilted items, but I love the scrappy look the best.

cjomomma 12-26-2010 07:26 PM

I love the scrappy look, I just haven't made any in a while but now that Christmas is over I might make a couple. My scrap bin is over flowing.

I love to make scrappy kits. I just finished a maple leaf/log cabin and my DH said "was that a kit" it's awesome. All except the backround fabric and border came from my stash. Didn't even make a dent!!

LAB55 12-26-2010 07:38 PM

I like scrappy & crazy patch. You can use a lot of different fabrics from stash or left overs. :-)

Scrappy quilts are about my favorite, in fact started another one this evening. They remind me of quilts we had when I was a child--not fancy but pretty.

caliquocat 12-26-2010 07:56 PM

I love making scrappy quilts. My problem is being free minded enough to not worry about the color placement.

craftybear 12-26-2010 08:12 PM

I love scrappy quilts

SherriB 12-26-2010 08:29 PM

I love everyone elses scrappy quilts. But I don't know if I could ever make one. I don't know if I could let myself just throw colors/patterns together without worrying about if they "went together or not".

theoldgraymare 12-26-2010 09:21 PM

I adore scrappy quilts.

quiltingaz 12-26-2010 10:39 PM

Scrappy quilts are fun. I sometimes have a hard time just throwing all those colors together and try to do too much planning. They always come out beautiful.

earthwalker 12-26-2010 10:46 PM

I love scrappy...I am attempting one at the moment. Totally random, just a big bag of scraps and sew whatever gets pulled out (bit of a lucky dip). Doing a few heart blocks and wonky houses to throw in....lots of fun but hard to stick to the random concept.

I love scrappy quilts too. I find myself making some rules or parameters for how I organize the scraps, but I do love a good mix of color and pattern.

I like scrappy with flannel backing. brings back memories of my granmother who taught me to quilt.

CarrieAnne 12-27-2010 03:28 AM

I think scrappys are my favorite!

Shelbie 12-27-2010 04:40 AM

Scrappy quilts are my absolute favourite. They look like the quilts Grandma made and they appeal to my frugal nature. Anytime that I can make a wonderful quilt out of a bag of scraps is a bonus. I get to work with fabric that I didn't choose, colours that I would never have put together and best of all these bags are usually a "here you are" from other quilters who are just cleaning up some extra stuff. What a wonderful gift to get my creative juices flowing.

I love scrappy quilts too, we did our first scrappy LC for a quilt shop owner who gave us her scraps and said "put them all together" - so we did and it came out great. That was years ago.
We also don't worry about all pieces being precisely the same size - ours have a more old-fashioned look.

I have a huge tote of fabric from shirts, dresses that I got from yard sales, thrift store. I have been buying some lights to go with them. I have alot of blues. May pull them out and make a scrappy blue quilt with them? A lady at LQS said she made one with blu, purples and some teals? that sounds good to me, livable colors and I have most of the colors in my tote already. I thought about just making the scrappy blocks on the side, that way when I get tired of looking at the quilt blocks I am making now, I could do something different for a change then just let them pile up into a workable project.

The scrappy quilt will always be first in my quilters heart. I don't know why, but I love it. I am in the beginning of making a scrappy Cathedral Window quilt. It will take some time. but that is okay with me.

wanttobe 12-27-2010 05:25 AM

I am working on my second quilt. It is a scrappy one. Because I am new to quilting and decided to make a queen size (big mmistake on my part)it is taking forever. I can't wait to post it, but I will stick to lap quilts next time.

kateyb 12-27-2010 06:01 AM

Scrappies are great and it is like getting an almost "free" quilt. They appeal to my frugal nature, too. If nothing else they are great utility quilts. Since they are not fancy they are more likely to be used.

CompulsiveQuilter 12-27-2010 06:07 AM

The more scraps the better, but I like to also use a background/sashing that's uniform to tie it all together. I used to work in the quilting department at Joann's and bought every remnant before it got rolled ... I have probably 2,000 less-than-a-yard pieces - all organized and beautiful to look at. If it's scrappy, I've got all the fabric I need in my stash.

clawson556 12-27-2010 07:25 AM

I love scrappy too.

Annaquilts 12-27-2010 07:26 AM

I am a scrappy girl.

dkabasketlady 12-27-2010 07:27 AM

I love to make scrappy quilts. I have only made a few using set fabrics and find this is an easy way to use up left-overs from other projects. I also like to buy remnants and these go a long way in a scrappy quilt.

tucsonquilter 12-27-2010 07:31 AM

What patterns do you use when you make a scrappy quilt?

dolores 12-27-2010 08:53 AM

I love scrappy quilts, I make them because you can use anything and it comes out pretty good. I also like the old time traditional patterns, I am going to trying my hand at a double Irish chain. I save my scraps so I can make more quilts.

cassiemae 12-27-2010 09:25 AM

I agree with the others I love to make scrappy quilts.
The last two I made were scrappy's.

I do scrappies when I have lots of little pieces laying around. I never like to start them, but am always impressed at how nice they look when I am finished.

kclausing 12-27-2010 01:08 PM

I love scrappy. I spent all day yesterday going through my scraps and cutting it up into 1" strips, 2" blocks, 1.5" strips, and 2.5" strips. Not for the same quilt, just for collection to eventually make scrappy quilts using uniform size scraps.

I only got 1/4 of the way thorugh my scraps. Had to stop, my shoulder started cramping up from cutting so much.
