There are those who use every single tiny piece, including 1/2 inch pieces! I keep them and give them to her..she makes beautiful quilts with those tiny scraps others give to her.

Oh my, I can't imagine throwing away scraps. I love scrap, string, crumb, improve quilts; as well as quilted postcards and mug rugs. I save almost everything. If it is big enough to make the center of an applique flower it gets put in a b ox. Try to keep by color.

Offer them to someone on the board in exchange for the postage. Some women would love to get them for their scrappies.

I cut them into 2.5 in strips or squares of whatever size possible down to 2.5 inches. anything smaller goes into a large bag to be stuffed into pet beds for our local shelter. (animal) there is always a need for the animal beds and always a use for scrappy quilts!

I made some miniature quilts from scraps from my last project. The scraps that remained from those 2 quilts will just get used up in a junk blanket for the car using strip piecing methods.
For many years, I just cut up the scraps into pre-determined sizes: 1.5, 2, 2.5, 3, 3.5 plus 1.5, 2 and 2.5 inch strips. After I complete the current quilt, I will no longer cut squares smaller than 2.5, although I will probably continue to cut strips since various family members have requested junk blankets. Here is a link to the style of junk quilt that I make. This one is actually pretty. Mine are ugly so people use them. The second quilt is quite pretty. For cars, you want ugly blankets because people DO steal quilts and you wouldn't want your window broken out. Junk quilt Scrap quilt |
Oh boy, I have a HUGE tote of Christmas fabric scraps(leftovers from crazy quilt stockings) and after reading your scraps post i went to my sewing room and made 7- 6x6 squares. The idea is to use them all up and make quilts for the 6 kids.UGH, I don't know when to quit. And boy am I a happy quilter!!!Thank you, my scraps are grateful and so is my husband, well he will be when he gets his new quilt on St. Nick night.

Hi sew them together to make a new fabric. Sew them onto muslin or paper too. Make scrappy blocks.
