Hi, I'm new to quilting and made a "practice" one which will now be my dog's new bed quilt hahaha (I goofed up a lot on it but learned a lot too) Anyway, when I went to sew the batting and backing to the top, I can feel some of the seams where I sewed the top blocks together. I can feel them when I touch the back of the quilt. How do you keep from getting those seams? I tried ironing the seams flat but they don't stay down. Thanks

What kind of batting are you using? I found out quickly that batting does make a difference. I love the warm and natural batting.

It is Mountain Mist 100% polyesther that I got from JoAnns. It seemed thin and I almost thought maybe it was supposed to be doubled or something.

Some of the less expensive low loft poly battings will do this. It may not be just your seams, it is probably the batting too.
There is no way to avoid thick, heavy seams in some blocks/patterns. So this is inevitable, but a little thicker batting can help with not feeling them. On your next quilt? Let us help you with the seams, there are tricks we can help you with :D:D:D |
I would love to learn any tricks to make it easier! :)

and i tend to steam press the seams flat. helps.

I've tried that but they won't stay down :(

I keep a small container of liquid starch & water mixture next to the ironing board. I dip my finger in that and dampen the seam, press it with a dry iron and that will usually get those seams to lay down. : )

Great idea! Thanks!

This is my first "real" attempt at a quilt. The points are all perfect but I think it turned out great
