how do i search for ideas about the quilting pattern for log cabin quilts?

not piecing patterns...the actual quilting patterns?

i am also having trouble finding the images i know are here too, so many i am just having a total brain fart....

help?

or....offer suggestions for quick, effective machine quilting ideas for the gorgeous thing?

No help here but it is beautiful!! You did a great job!

NOT SITD.

I never understand why some quilters, after spending all the time and money creating a design via color or shape, then totally negate the whole idea by just quilting SITC around the blocks.
Makes no sense to me.

Here's a great blog post by Leah Day....the sample quilt is much, much smaller and the blocks are a bit different, but the Barn Raising concept it still very evident.

Whether it's doing fancy FMQ or straight line stitching, I love how she's at least following the design of the blocks.

i think i'll quilt it in a straight line diamond. one pink thread following the centre line of the light blocks, one through the centre line of the dark blocks.

simple simon. no messy around. simple wavy border all around.

the only money spent here was for the borders and the batting. 20 years of fabric saving, hauling, coveting and collecting finally spilled out of the bin and into the quilt of my dreams.

i even killed 7 almost empty spools zig zagging the leftover pyjama flannel bits into the world's ugliest backing :)

Depends on how much quilting you like (and the batting you're using).
I usually go for dense quilting, but that's just me.
I think yesterday you wrote that they were 9.5" blocks, so you should be fine.

I sometimes use the Bernina #4 stitch to give it a little extra movement.
Most machines have something similar.
It's just as easy/as much work as a straight line.

That is a beautiful quilt! I love to see feather patterns on log cabins, they look so pretty! When I finish mine, I hope to send it Charisma to work her magic on it. :)

I found this site the other day. They also sell paper patterns as well as digital, or even just browsing gives me ideas of things I can draw up on my own. I'm not ready for feathers yet myself on a large scale. Having a larger quilt on a domestic machine is challenging enough just to move it, but the visability isn't great and I can't always see where I'm going. But using paper patterns helps me to be able to do some things I wouldn't normally do.

The library is also a place to look.

I am a SITDer and a cross hatcher, but it is because it is all I can do. Can't afford a LA or hiring a LAer. Sttching in the ditch doesn't distract the eye from all of that time and money creating beautiful design in piecing. I do like straight line stitching that follow the design, but FMQ is out of the question as far as my skills go. I suppose it's all in the eye of the beholder as to what people like.
