Here is another quilt that goes together easily - it is called Bailey's quilt. I'm not ready to let go of my pattern, but I can direct you to a store selling it.

Sorry, I'm not sure where you find the pattern for the boxed squares, I change this from Marys Quilts to Quilters Cache, but didn't find it either place.

I like the Boxed Squares from Quilters Cache. It's simple, cut a 2 1/2 in square and the boxed it in with anorth color, square on top and bottom the rectanles along the side. go one more them around to make it larger. You can use lots of different fabrics or a few, just mix them up.

My vote goes to Carpenters Star. It only needs 3 colours & goes together quickly. All you need is a light coloured background, a medium colour & then a co ordinating dark colour. The pattern I found online says you can make the top in 4 hours (not counting the cutting) It is made with half square triangles & a very easy pattern with fantastic results (if you pick the right colour combos). Just google carpenters star &look for the 4 hour one. Hope this helps & prayers out to your friend & her dear mother.

So sorry to hear about your friend's mom. A quilt for your friend is a wonderful idea.

I agree the D9P is very attractive, easy & quick. Here is a pic of one I made for my GS

Thanks everyone so far for the ideas :) I like your D9P, Gail, it is my favorite so far. I can see using a gold for the smaller squares and a black instead of your light with tans for the blocks. I also have a Hoffman Bali Pop Cappucino jelly roll and some jelly roll patterns I need to look through.

I've made this one twice! Goes together fast, easy and fun. Think it would look great with black background and a mix of golds/tans.

My vote is for the Carpenter Star. Its simple cutting, sewing is HST and squares sewn together, straight forward sewing and they always look very nice. Can be made in 3 colors as well as scrappy and can be made in many different sizes.

Check Quilter's Cache for Floating Stars - It has an optical illusion and all you cut out are 2-1/2x2-1/2" squares and 4-1/2x 2-1/2 rectangles. Fast and easy. I am making mine with 216 squares of each, cut the 2-1/2 into triangles and sew them to the 4-1/2x 2-1/2. It will be about 52x80 (give or take) and makes a lovely throw. All you need is two colors - a background and whatever you want for the triangles. Edie
