From 1956 until his death in 1981, Harwood Steiger and his wife, Sophie, operated a silk screening studio in Tubac, AZ, producing hundreds of designs in a wide variety of colors. The designs ranged from representations of the desert (cactus, roadrunners, quail and other plants) to mid century modern abstract designs. Very popular and collectable.
I am developing a book on Harwood Steiger textiles and very much would appreciate your contacting me if you have some. I am looking for examples in yardage, table linens and articles made from the fabric to photograph for my book. If you are lucky enough to own any Harwood Steiger, or know someone who does, please contact me via PM I would be very grateful for any leads. Thanks!

I ran across a couple of yards of fabric by Harwood Steiger in my basement. I believe it's from the late 60s and it's a red and brown on pink print called "Fruit." Can send a snapshot if you want.

A photo would be wonderful. I am not familiar with this design, but there are literally hundreds. If I may suggest, press the fabric. Hang it vertically. Smooth out wrinkles and shoot straight on. If possible, one shot showing selvage to selvage and close ups of the important design elements. I will be very grateful. If you ever decide to sell it, please contact me. Many, many thanks. I have come across a few yards of Harwood Steiger fabric labled "Plaza". It appears to be an ivory linen fabric with a royal blue screen printing. Are you familiar with this pattern by Steiger?

Thank you

Thanks for writing. Yes, I have seen this design. Mr. Steiger frequently printed designs on several types of fabric. The one you describe sounds like the heavier cotton weave used for home decor and table linens. Do you have a picture you can send? I'd love to see yours. Thanks.

I will get a photo and email you. Is your email the same as listed above?

Thanks!

That would be great. My email address is [email protected]. Thanks and enjoy your Steiger. What do you have planned for it?

Photos have been sent your way - at this point I have no plans for the fabric. It something I hate to take a scissors to.

Any suggestions?

I know how you feel about cutting. I went through the same kind of angst a while back, but finally overcame it. I suggest that you visit my blog: harwoodsteiger.blogspot.com to see some examples and to learn more about Harwood Steiger. Lots of Steiger textile examples posted. Many, many thanks.

I have 4 different fabrics as well as 2 garments. I actually went to the studios many years ago and was able to watch them print. I would be glad to share photos if my mother is given credit, they were her fabrics purchased at the studios and garments that she made.

Are you still looking for these pieces? If so, I found 2 different panels. One is a dress front (cut and unfinished) and the other has two panels on one piece of yardage.
