I am a new quilter and I am looking for some simple seasonal lap quilts for my friend who is now in a nursing home something she can put on her bed and look great for each and every season change or holiday. Can anybody help me? any suggestions on how to begin?.

Thank you, Elizabeth

Lots of possibilities. Might check out Mcalls Quilting web site. They have lots of really nice paterns. Most of the other mags have web sites with neat patterns. Are you wanting applique, or pieced or landscape quilts? What di you have in mind? Patchwork quilts done in seasonal prints would be a fast and easy way--Christmas colors, spring colors, maybe blue and white for winter. Keep us posted on what you decide and we all love to look at pictures. Good luck :!:

I think you can use pretty much any pattern you want. It would be the fabric choices and maybe the weight of the quilt that make it seasonal. You could do a nice log cabin or bear paw in Fall fabrics and colors (gold, rust, olive, browns, deep red etc.) with a medium weight batting for fall. Maybe a cute snowball quilt with winter themed fabrics (snowmen, snowflakes etc) with heavier batting for winter. Or even a flannel quilt for winter would be nice if she lives in a cold climate. For springtime another medium weight quilt in bright cherry pastels.. maybe an applique quilt of tulips or a pieced pattern using soft florals. And for summer a very light quilt (maybe even no batting if she lives in a hot climate) with summer time fabrics like bright colors or summer themes like the beach, picnics etc.

The Valentine"s day fabrics are probably in stock now and maybe Easter. But if you want to get a good deal on Christmas fabric,I bought some at JoAnn's for 50% off last weekend. The stores don't want to keep their holiday stock from last season til next season.I always buy my Christmas fabric after January, then I can get twice as much for the same price. You'll be able to do the same for each holiday.I never buy before a holiday, always after and save money to keep the cost of making my quilts down.

When I made a lap quilt for my Aunt, I made a type of tab with velcro to attach to two corners so that when she used it in her wheel chair she could hook it to the chair so that it would not fall on the floor when she moved around
