Hi
I'm looking to upgrade from a 20 year old basic sewing machine to a sewing quilting machine. Any advice? I'm almost over the sticker shock. I would like a machine I can use from start to finish .... Quilt blocks to quilting the layers. One machine that appears to meet my needs is the Brother innov-is NX2000. Regards SJSCRIBE |
I am partial to the Janome brand 6500, 6600 6700

It's a good idea to look on the net for reviews of the specific brand and model of machine you are considering. Sometimes you can find them on Amazon.
http://www.patternreview.com is also a good place to find actual user reviews of specific brands and models. I couldn't find your exact model there, but found this one: http://sewing.patternreview.com/Sewi.../Review/1/3534 |
Bernina. Hands down.

Do you have different dealers near you so you can try out a few brands? There isn't much of a choice where I live, luckily it's Viking and that's what I have and love. I know if I drove an hour or two I'd have more options. But if I have a problem, I surely don't want a long commute to go get it fixed or just for advice. Just something to consider. :)

While looking be sure and check out a Juki 98Q.I just love mine.

The Juki TL98E is another workhorse.

I also love my Viking for quilting, I have an old New Home I love for piecing.

Another Janome lover! Plus, the dealer I work with is wonderful!

Bernina!

Welcome to the board from Southern California!!!
There are so many different machines out there in all price ranges. I recommend setting your price range, trying out the machines and it does help if you have a dealer of that machine not too far off to be able to take classes and for any repairs that may eventually come up. |
Hi,
Thank-you, all for your quick responses, they'be been greatly appreciated. It has been a warm welcome to the quilting board. :) In my area, there is Bernina, Brother, Janome, and Pfaff dealer. I've been to all but the the Bernina, which I plan to visit Friday (I work away from home during the week). One feature that I liked on the Brother was the multi-directional sewing for straight and zigzag. So far, I have found the Brother had the most usable features, but I'm still researching and comparing it to the Janome. My only issue is the machine is so new on the market I haven't been able to find a review. :( |
I love my viking sapphire 870..........it has the automatic thread cutter, presser foot lifter and it's pretty.
Good Luck on whatever you decide! |
