Why didn't you ask you friend to demonstrate?
I approach my seams in different ways, depending on what I'm ripping and where I'm ripping. If someone wants to tell me I'm wrong, they better have a GOOD demonstration at hand.

Neat. Thanks!

Straight edge razor blades... can't live without them for opening seams. Then to clean up the little messy pieces left in the fabric, gently scrape the blade sideways along the seam and those pieces all pull out of the fabric, nice and neat.

That is what I do with quilting - sewing I used to stick the pointy part of the ripper into the middle of the seam and cut a couple at once, pulling the seam apart.

When I rip out, I turn the fabric to show the bobbin thread then I take the point of the ripper and cut through every 3 or 4th stitch along the seam to be ripped. When you have done that, turn the fabric to the right side showing to top thread and gently pull. It all just unravels so very nicely. I enjoy ripping...it is down time and time to think and listen to the music. hope this helps

You mean your friend didn't show you the right way? Surely she must know, since she knows that most of us don't know it. So is she keeping it secret, like her secret recipe? LOL (For me, whatever works, and sometimes it ain't pretty.)

I'll go with the SOMETIMES IT AIN'T PRETTY.

Whatever works. Like a lot of other things, you have to adapt to what you have and what you need!

Been there done that when the scissors and seam rippers hide! Prefer paring knife actually!

This is also how I do mine. It doesn't pull and wrinkle your fabric, or cut into the fabric. You can cover a lot of seam in just a little bit of time. Neat and clean!

Glad to see some one else uses a small rotary cutter. I also use the presser foot to hold the fabric while ripping or cutting the threads, it works like a third hand.
