I approach my seams in different ways, depending on what I'm ripping and where I'm ripping. If someone wants to tell me I'm wrong, they better have a GOOD demonstration at hand. |

Straight edge razor blades... can't live without them for opening seams. Then to clean up the little messy pieces left in the fabric, gently scrape the blade sideways along the seam and those pieces all pull out of the fabric, nice and neat.

When I rip out, I turn the fabric to show the bobbin thread then I take the point of the ripper and cut through every 3 or 4th stitch along the seam to be ripped. When you have done that, turn the fabric to the right side showing to top thread and gently pull. It all just unravels so very nicely. I enjoy ripping...it is down time and time to think and listen to the music. hope this helps

On big jobs I use the rotary cutter held like a pencil. I still smile as I remember when I visited someone who was using a steak knife to take out the stitches in the hem of her husband's pants.

Glad to see some one else uses a small rotary cutter. I also use the presser foot to hold the fabric while ripping or cutting the threads, it works like a third hand.
