Does any one sell they're quilts once they are done,or when you have to many?

KathyAire 07-14-2011 06:30 AM

I don't. I give mine away. People are a lot more critical when they buy things than they are if you give them something.

vjengels 07-14-2011 06:38 AM

sometimes I give them away for a raffle.. then I take the amount as a tax dedution. ( would that be considered 'selling'?) But, mostly, if I give them away it's because I wan tot give that person a gift.

I sell a few every now and then-mostly they end up being family gifts.

I have never sold any, but have given loads away as gifts. I have three more ready at the moment and all have recipients.

I've sold a few, but mainly give as gifts.

Usually I sell ones made upon request. I did sell one at a shop last week. I have given many more away.

I'm seriously thinking of selling some of mine. i've made many tops and am trying to finish them into quilts. so i will have too many when done.

I have given quilts to every friend and family member who would ever want one (or more!) and continue to do so but I also make things to sell. Quilting is becoming my living as well as my hobby. Lucky me! :-D

I have given all of mine for gifts.

ptquilts 07-14-2011 09:35 AM

I have sold them for years, not so much anymore.

TerryQuilter 07-14-2011 02:03 PM

I give all mine away. Most people don't want to pay you what they are worth. The answer I usually get when I tell someone what it would cost to make them a quilt is, "I can get one at WalMart for $39, how come your charge so much?"

jaciqltznok 07-14-2011 02:16 PM

NO way....sold some wall hangings, decor type things, but NEVER a whole big quilt..who would pay the money it was worth??

sueisallaboutquilts 07-15-2011 01:25 PM

No I haven't and wouldn't want to. It would make my passion seem too much like a job :)

I do custom order quilts as home business. I give many as gifts as well. I have had many people ask why I charge so much. I found a breakdown of cost at different hourly rates... I think it was on this site... and now my clients understand a little better.

I am selling a bunch to pay for restoration of my old family farmhouse.

Mariposa 07-15-2011 02:18 PM

Have sold a couple, but mostly mine are for gifts or donations~

Exactly -- I don't want to have to feel like making quilts is work!
