I'm so glad that your situation will be resolved - and I love your quilt top!

MarLeClair 05-02-2013 09:40 AM

You are paying her for a service. If you were having remodeling work done in your house, wouldn't you like to know when they will start and the approximate date it will be done? You do not have a friendship relationship with this LA quilter, why tip-toe around her?

cathyvv 05-02-2013 09:49 AM

Always negotiate a due date when you contract with the LA quilter. We do that with everything else we buy, so why not this?

Dina 05-02-2013 11:39 AM

I am glad you gave her a call and will be getting your quilt soon. Thank goodness!!

I'd say call. You are paying her and have the right to call. Seems like she mislead you in the first place. If you can't get a time frame and if you do and it is not in your time frame, pull your quilt and go someplace else.

I'm glad the timeline has been defined.

I don't know, maybe I'm a bit weird lol. I do LA quilting. I don't like to have a pile of quilts stacked up in my studio. I don't have move than 3 quilts here at a time. I feel like the quilts should stay with the owner until I can get to them lol. I give the customer a time frame of 2 weeks but might have it done in three days. I like to say two week in case anything comes up and I don't like to rush. I usually start the quilts right away, just in case.

I never do rush jobs, too much stress and things can go wrong. I play music and quilt to it so it is an enjoyable experience for me.

I would definitely call her and inquire as to why it is not finished yet. I don't think that is offensive. You are paying for her services and if she has had it since Feb. then she has had enough time to finish it.

Just wanted to say that I am happy you will be getting your quilt on time and that your quilt is beautiful -- love it!

As a general rule for everyone who sends quilts to LAQers it is a good idea to set a deadline date for finishing. Your quilt will end up on the bottom of the pile with out a date and it can happen several times before they get to it in some spare time, cause time is money. (Not all LAQS, but enough to make it worth having a deadline)

It is a good lesson.

Keep in mind that your LAQ is running a business. I'm sure she would rather hear from you now and be aware that she needs to make an effort to accommodate your needs than take a chance on alienating you and losing your business. I would call her and tell her, politely, when you need your quilt. If she tells you she can't have it by then, you may want to consider trying the other quilter you use. It is tricky to deal with this sort of thing once the quilt is give to the LAQ. Generally, it's a better idea to have a pretty clear understanding about the timeline for completion before you leave it to be quilted.

I am with judylg..I would call and tell her you understand the surgery but was planning on giving the quilt as a gift at the end of may.

I remain amazed at how hard piecers can be on long armers. Communication is the key, on both sides. None of us should be judging what is or has happened from here. JMHO

Aren't you glad you called! You were much nicer than I would have been, but it paid off, and you'll probably get your quilt in time. And - it's a very pretty quilt!

Maggie_Sue 05-04-2013 04:44 PM

Would love to see it quilted when you get it back, beautiful quilt top!!

cathyvv 05-04-2013 05:02 PM

Very pretty quilt. Glad you settled your issue with the LA.

I hope you can pick up the quilt today - please let us know.

ManiacQuilter2 05-11-2013 09:48 AM

As someone who quilted for others (on a Bernina), I always appreciated knowing when a customer needed it by a certain date that I could then mark in my calendar. There are always other customers and charity quilts that come popping up unexpectedly with what I called "emergency" quilts!! Just give her a call asking her when should you expect your quilt to be done. If she has the reputation that I think she has, she will try her best to get yours done ASAP. Maybe see if you can come by to take a picture of the quilt and put that in an envelope for your Mother. I am sure she will be surprised! I know how disappointed you must feel but your Mother will always treasure the quilt.

Wow! She was not being hard on the LAQ. The LAQ said she wasn't working on anything else and she's had the quilt since February. JMHO.

Raggiemom 05-11-2013 03:56 PM

I hope you were able to pick it up today.

CRO 05-11-2013 04:30 PM

I was able to pick up the quilt for my mother. Didn't take any pictures as I will be attempting my first binding ever, and needed to get started. Wish me luck. :) She spent time explaining binding and she had sewn the sandwich edges together so I wouldn't have to. I will do better by her next time as far as communication.
The other one is loaded and she should have it done in a week. It is an all over computerized pattern so hope it goes OK for her.
