A Serger Question Please
 

My Sister ask me what I think about the Babylock Serger 418
I don't know what to tell her as I have not got a Serger so can
any one give me any opinon on this model? I
guess she's thinking of buying this.

I have a Babylock Wave serger & have been very happy with it - especially the air threading & self adjusting tension. I do not know if the model your sister is looking at has these features but if so, they are great!

Go to pattern Review to look it up. I am not familiar with that model. I have the Evolution and love it. Baby Lock is reputed to make one of the best sergers.

I bought the Baby Lock for the air threading system. I also have a Bernina which is impossible to thread!

I have a very basic Singer serger mostly because that is all could afford at the moment. It is not easy to thread but it is not impossible either - frustrating, yes, especially if you do not thread it right. Tension is what kills me because it is really sensitive. If she needs a serger and plans on using it often I would look beyond basic like mine and go for something less frustrating. My MIL has Husquarna and loves it, although threading is as hard as mine. I have an old Simplicity Serger that I got for nothing - (can't beat that price!) It's difficult to thread but some friends showed me that you never unthread it. Just cut the thread near the spool and tie the new thread on and pull or stitch it through. If you knot is small enough it will go through and the hooks as well as the eye of the needle.

Also added a pair of pointy tweezers to my serger kit. Makes a difference if the thread breaks and I do have to re-thread it.

I have owned a Juki Serger since 1998, and love it. Yes you need tweezers and also they do make a serger threader, long handle with like a thin wire loop on the end. And I do agree one of the simpliest ways to rethread is to cut and tie your thread. I have a girlfriend, who just couldn't handle rethreading her machine so she bought a second one, so now she has one threaded black and one threaded white.....of course she does make a lot of napkins as gifts with embroidery on the corners....

babylock is great no matterwhich one you buy they are very well made

with it if she does buy it are download one if not. I new my friends here would give me the best advice . :)
