Serger Thread....what is considered the best use brand out there...cost not an issue
 

I purchased the Baby-lock Evolution at Paduach a couple months ago and now I'm looking to see what is considered the best brand of thread for serging.

I want to start sewing/quilting using this machine and exeriment using all 8-spools for some projects.

So for you sergers out there which brand do you use and why?

Since a serger uses so much thread per inch the thread is usually of a cheaper manufacture process and is spun in a rougher finish than other sewing thread. I take advantage of this aspect of the thread and buy serger thread that is on sale in the color that I want regardless of brand. The only exception is a Bernini special thread for the bottom looper that is much thicker and is used for a satin stitch appearance. I think they are the only company making it. I have never been able to tell one cotton serger thread brand from another either in the way it performs on my serger or in the way it looks. When I use special threads, I select according to the effect I want not according to the brand. I hope this helps.

Maxi-Lock is the best. Longer threads (like good cotton quilting threads), great colors, good price at Jo-anns (last I bought it there) when on sale, consistent color dye. Also, for a heavier thread use Wooly Nylon.

i've been using maxi-lock for 20+ years---actually didn't even know there was something different---of course there probably is- but i've never had any reason to look for something different- it comes in hundreds of colors- is economical & readily available- and as i said- i didn't even think about there being anything else- for me it is the best---since i've not compared it to anything else.

I use Maxi-Lock. I've tried others and didn't really have any trouble except the color selection was limited. The former Atlanta Thread Co. now Wawak sells Maxi-Lock for 1.99 a cone. Can't beat the price.

Superior Threads has some they recommend for sergers.

I honestly haven't found any bad serger thread. I've paid $1 a spool and it has worked just fine.

Maxi-Lock is the best, in my opinion. I also like Rainbow verigated thread.

Not many quilters know this when using serger cone thread for machine quilting: Serger threads are sold on large spools, and some folks like to buy them because they are cheaper by the yard than regular threads. Be aware that serger threads are designed to be used in multiples, and a single thickness may seem weak by itself. (ie you might have problems with it breaking)

I like Maxi-Lock for my serger. I just took a class making a pillow entirely on the serger with pintucks, ruching, ladder type stitch to run ribbon through, zipper insertion and cording on the pillow and used the Maxi-Lock and also just Isacord 40 wt embroidery to get the fancy look for pintucks and stitches for ribbon. They worked great together.
