How about something like this?

SaraSewing 05-07-2009 04:40 PM

I can't believe the details!!!

sewnsewer2 05-07-2009 05:39 PM

OMG those are the most ADORABLE blocks!!!

Please, please do share the pattern with us if anyone finds it!

And I agree, we want to see more pics of the blocks.

b.zang 05-07-2009 06:07 PM

Wow! You are going to have one darling quilt when it's all together. Those blocks are just too cute!! I kind of the like the idea of grouping them into fours as though they're dancing.

I would be totally intimidated to receive such an exquisite collection, yet there's some urge in me to try one myself.

Do you think you could put all those block together in groups and let us see all of them? Please??

Carol W 05-09-2009 02:41 PM

Wow!!!

I'm speechless!!!

What a great idea!!!

pittsburgpam 05-11-2009 06:28 AM

OMG! Those are fantastic! Is that a ball and tennis racket, or a bat, on the one on the left we can barely see?? Please post more pictures.

From the 4 that are shown I might guess that each person did a boy and a girl? If so, how about setting the matching boy and girl together on-point, side-by-side or top/bottom, and two setting triangles of the same backgorund fabric and a slim border of a fabric that goes with the theme (if there is one) of each set?

kwhite 05-11-2009 07:18 AM

I am starting to think flowergirlWard17 is selfish and doesn't want to share the other photos with us. We have been waiting SOOOOOO long for more cuteness. What do you think.

Sew and Sew 05-11-2009 09:29 AM

What wonderful blocks.....I will be watching to see if you ever find the pattern.....i looked briefly on line......searching under vintage paper doll boy/girl clothing blocks........found some intersting ones........but ran out of time to keep searching........good luck,

It wasn't hard to do in EQ6. This in an 8" finished block.

#1piecemaker 05-11-2009 06:24 PM

These are just somethingelse. A pretty checked sashing would work. These are too cute. Good luck locating the pattern

BlueChicken 05-11-2009 06:38 PM

Oh my goodness, they are absolutely amazing!

I'd been keen on doing a swap too.... like pam's done above, the pattern wouldn't be too hard to make. And you could embellish each one so easily. Imagine with all the internationals we have in here the native costumes and daily dress styles we could have!

pittsburgpam 05-11-2009 06:41 PM

You'd have to make that a looooong swap for each person to do 12 of them!

That would be pretty cool though.

It can be done in PDF from EQ6 to hand out? Not sure since I never tried.

BlueChicken 05-11-2009 07:54 PM

Yep.... it would be hard work wouldn't it! Maybe a smaller swap, say a set of four, or six... so there'd be two girls and two boys, or three girls and three boys. They could be set on point with plain squares in between to set them off.

You can create a pdf file easy enough, not sure if you do it straight from eq6, but it's easy to turn a picture into a pdf. I use a program called CutePDF, it's like having a virtual printer attached to the pc, only instead of printing a hard copy it creates a pdf file.

Absolutely delightful blocks! You are quite blessed to receive them.

And I agree, I would love to see more of those 50 blocks that you are hiding. Probably afraid a quilt crew will come and swipe them away, LOL.

warm quilt hugs, sue

GladGrams 05-13-2009 07:16 AM

This is true creative workmanship or work"wo"menship. You are absolutely right they do deserve that justice is done so as to preserve them. They are unique, as all of the posts testify, because no one seems to have ever seen anything like them!

It would be wonderful if you could publish pics of each of them so we can see them and maybe try to make some for ourselves. If you are not adverse to that.

Thank you so much for sharing this. It is a treasure.

thimblebug6000 05-13-2009 07:17 AM

Fun blocks for sure, lucky you! Pee wee that kreationsbykaren site you posted has great settings, love the one with embroidery in the sashing.

CathyOh 05-13-2009 07:37 AM

Stunning and adorable! How lucky you are! When you find that pattern will you share it with us? Perhaps it is a fun friendship swap we can all do? Thoughts ladies?

pittsburgpam 05-13-2009 07:43 AM

I have been thinking that it might be fun to make a boy/girl combination from the fabric of each quilt I make. I would have a record of them and some adorable blocks to put together.

Wouldn't be much extra work to do two of them at a time.

scrappylouisa 05-13-2009 07:46 AM

Fantastic blocks! I would love to make some of these using fabrics that I've saved over the years from my sewing.

cyniree 05-13-2009 07:46 AM

OMG, these are so cute!!!! I hope you share when you get it done.

dlf0122quilting 05-13-2009 07:49 AM

Those are absolutely adorable. Wish I had the pattern for our friendship group. We do an auction quilt each year and that would be so much fun. Please share the pattern if you ever find it. I be Eleanor Burns would have fun making up these patterns into a book like she does with a lot of the Nancy Page ones. I have taken classes from Eleanor and she is a hoot and this would be right up her alley. She may even be a source of information on the pattern. Check with her staff at www.quiltinaday.com.
Good Luck.

CathyOh 05-13-2009 07:58 AM

SO, who is interested in doing a friendship swap with this pattern? Anybody?

pittsburgpam 05-13-2009 08:00 AM

I'd be interested. How many would each person need to make?

CathyOh 05-13-2009 08:03 AM

We could all decide how big we want it to be. How about a twin size? That would be about 8 blocks wide by 10 blocks long - that's if you used all the pieced blocks. That is 80 blocks. So, what if we did 40 blocks total and however many of us decides to do it, we will just divide that number into the 40 .... just brainstorming here. Ideas?

Katie B 05-13-2009 08:27 AM

I would suggest using the chambray and red checked fabrics to border around each of these adorable blocks in a Log Cabin pattern. On the red/ white blocks, use blue chambray or solid white, followed by a round of the opposite color combination. The strips need not be more than a half or 3/4-inch each, as each round is going to widen the blocks. Maybe, one round each of 3/4-inch (finished) would not detract too much. Quilter and teacher, Sharyn Craig has many options in putting together difficult settings approaches. She was at our Quilt group, Gems of the Prairie Quilters, twice in the past 3 years and she helped those attending her lectures so much. She has written books on just this subject. You might try Amazon.com to see if they have any past books available. She told us at our February meeting that this is the last year that she will be going out for lectures and is retiring to do all of her UFOs.

nellie 05-13-2009 10:10 AM

wow im speehless what a nice sister in law you have ,what a gift ,if anybody whats to start a swap im in keep me posted

Swan Song 05-13-2009 11:39 AM

These are so cute! I also like the square dance idea. Group them in fours with similar colors. I guess I would have to see them grouped to decide on colors. I wouldn't use anything too busy so as not to take away from the beautiful work.

A swap would be wonderful! Oh great another to add to my WIP list  I guess I will never see the end in my lifetime  Seriously though I would love to participate in a swap. Keep us posted.

BlueChicken 05-13-2009 11:42 AM

I was thinking smaller than a bed quilt personally.... if some have a lot of embellishment it would be a lovely wall hanging.

Just an idea, but seeing as Pam has done the first bit and drawn up a block in EQ, maybe her and I could do a tester block each? And then work together and make a pattern and instructions up for everyone else? I think Pam you can export the block you've drawn and email it to me.

We could have a go and report back. I think they'd be fairly simple, but making a pattern from scratch always involves a little bit of work. I'd love to be involved.

Already having visions of native costumes, and fashion styles from other eras. :-) :-)

Sara Street 05-13-2009 12:03 PM

Do be sure and share when you find a source for the pattern! I have a drawer full of snippets of trims and laces, etc. that I've saved over the years and this is the perfect use for them!

These are adorable! Can't wait to hear more history - sure hope you find some!

Sara

Marguerite 05-13-2009 12:53 PM

Wow, those are really cute

quilterj 05-13-2009 01:42 PM

Those blocks are great. Love them.

Ellen 1 05-13-2009 02:18 PM

Such a good suggestion Kluedesigns!! I know who to ask when I need help.

CathyOh 05-13-2009 04:54 PM

LOVE IT!!!!

sewsewquilter 05-13-2009 05:00 PM

Those are WOW! I'm speechless.

cassie69emt 05-14-2009 03:22 AM

I have seen some blocks like that but instead of all pieced they actually cut baby clothes in half and appliqued them onto the backing fabric . I think bandanna fabric with those would look really good if you are going to do the square dancing theme.

Sara Street 05-14-2009 02:40 PM

Been searching the internet in my spare time, and found this today:

http://www.embroideryetcetera.com/mh...aper-dolls.htm

Not the same, but similar and cute, too!

june6995 05-14-2009 05:59 PM

Has anyone thought of sending these photos to Eleanor Burns to see what she can tell us about these blocks? She would have access to and know other quilters or people who are quilt historians as well as those who judge shows and might have seen quilts made like this. I would value her input on this subject.

I have sent these photos to older friends in various parts of the country in an effort to see if anyone knows when or how these were made. Everyone needs to pitch in and help locate some history about this particular style of quilt blocks. They are unique, and might have been one person's idea. What a talent that person possessed.

SO COOL.

Have you tried googling any of the names signed on the blocks, or doing a search on face book?
