setting quilting stitches?

So I know that setting your piecing stitches is a must, but what about after you quilt something??

You mean like pressing the actual quilting? Never heard of doing that.

I don't worry about setting my piecing stitches either. I just don't see the logic. They'll get just as set when I press the seam open.

yeah. ok. I didn't think so, but then I started to wonder...

When I make a chain of squares with two triangles, I first set the stitches with an iron, then finger press the square open, and finally press the square open with the iron.

This is how I first learned piecing from a Diana McClun dvd. It’s automatic now and takes me only a couple of seconds. I don’t think it’s a must. I like doing fiddly things so it suits me. No, I don’t set the quilted stitches.

I always wash my quilts when they are done. I think this accomplishes a lot of things, cleans the fabric from all you hand soil, exposes any problems like loose seams or missed stitches and most importantly sets the stitchesinto the quilt....If the quilt is going to have a problem I want to know before I give it away.....

After I finish quilting I am done. It gets washed and if I see something that is wrong I fix it then.
