Modifying Gidget I table for Janome 6600 (ATTN Wintersewer!)
Back in 2011, Wintersewer said that her husband had cut the hole in the Gidget I sewing table so that it would fit the slightly larger Janome 6500 -- Wintersewer, if you see this, can you elaborate on how he accomplished this?! Thanks! -- Helen (new to group)

I have an Arrow 601 Gidget sewing table. It's about 20x40 inches and very sturdy. it has an adjustable cut out for the machine to set into. I paid $110 including shipping. I have two of them, one for my Janome 6500 and one for my Babylock Decorator's Choice. My husband had to cut the holes a bit larger for these two slightly over sized machines.

Wintersewer here! He put masking tape on the table and drew the line he wanted to cut. He only had to cut the end as the hole was wide enough. Then he used a jigsaw to enlarge the hole. It only took a few minutes.

Yes, I also have a Sew Perfect table. I've had it for about 5 yrs. or so. I just ordered the back extension table to attach for my serger. I wanted to make sure that the ext. wouldn't vibrate when I ran the serger on it. The store's owner said it shouldn't so I'm taking his word on it. But I really love the table, it's very heavy, doesn't vibrate or shake at all when I run my sewing machine and very comfortable to sew on. Have fun with whichever table you decide on.

Looks like a nice sturdy table. I have never seen one before. I have a SEWZI also but that is made to be portable so not really comparable.

Here is the link http://sewperfecttables.com/ I think they are overpriced, industrial machines tables can often be found free or at very low cost, just start looking on your local craigslist. If you are handy at all it would be super easy to cut the top to fit your machine. |
I have one! I bought it about six months ago and I LOVE it. I have the J table and my Janome 6600 fits perfectly.
It happens to be nearly identical to the table my grandmother's industrial Singer is installed in, a table that is probably from the 60's. Except hers is a funky green. :) This table is a serious piece of furniture. Solid as a rock. I am not a light person and I have stood on this table and it doesn't move a bit. If I ever move I will disassemble it first because it is HEAVY!! Assembles very easily, I put it together in just a few minutes. The height of the shelf that the machine fits on is infinitely adjustable via very long screws so I was able to precisely line up my machine bed with the table top. The top itself is also adjustable but not infinitely adjustable; there are several different heights it can be set to. I was able to set it to exactly the height I wanted so I got lucky there. Not cheap and not portable, but it's extremely sturdy and that's just what I was looking for. I was tired of the "bounce" from the table I was using at the time (long Ikea table). Shipping was fast, it came with easy-to-read assembly instructions, and nothing was missing. Only thing I can think of as a drawback is if your machine had a free arm I don't know how you'd ever use that part of the machine with this table. But the Janome 6600 doesn't have a free arm so that's not a worry for me. |
