Sew Steady Free Motion Table
 

I have a Bernina 770 and working on quilting a baby quilt with a ruler. The machine is fine but I only have the small table that comes with the machine. It’s not in a cabinet. I’m finding it really hard to work on the tiny table.

Has anyone used the Sew Steady FM table? It’s a bit pricey at $230 so I want to check with others before I do it. I’ve been fine with the little table up to this point.

Open to other suggestions too.

Maybe the SewEzi table?

I have the SewEzi table for my Husqvarna and it's great. It doesn't vibrate when sewing and when you order the table they make sure the set in piece fits your machine. I also ordered the piece to set in that makes it a flat table to so I can use if when I have the embroidery unit in on my machine. And since it has wheels, when you fold it up, it's easy to transport or put away if you need it out of the way. I don't know where you live, but when I ordered mine, I had it in 3 days. (I'm in CA.)

I have the Sew Steady and I love it. I find myself be able to sit and sew longer without getting tired. Like the other brand they work with you for size, machine etc.

I not only have one - but I have two!! I had two older Pfaffs (2170 and 2058) for many years and the DH purchased one for me one Christmas. It fit both machines and I just Loved it. I sold the 2170 because I found a newer and larger hoop Pfaff - Creative Performance - but the foot print and arm shape were different so the Sew Steady did not fit. Santa brought me a newer table that next Christmas.

They are pricey but imho well worth it. I still use the older one with the 2058 which I kept for retreats. It looks just about brand new. They both came with a carrying case. Mine are the larger size. - there are four height adjustable feet fixed at the four corners with another adjustable foot with a suction cup on the top that you can place in the middle of the back. The feet come off easily for transportation. I am currently doing "small quilts" so a 1" finished square needs to be 1" so one feature I really like on mine is that there is a "ruler" printed on the front piece which I often use when something looks wonky (not that that would ever happen lol). I just hold the piece under the table and can slide the piece around to check on that perfect 1" square!!

I am sure that there are lots of other brands out there now - but these that I have are well made, a hefty piece of acrylic that does not bend, the surface has stayed pristine and easily adjustable (my machine is on a large heavy plastic folding table and is not particularly uniformly flat). I would not hesitate recommending it to any one.

Ooo- Thanks! I’ll need to decide real quick... there’s a Sew Steady table specifically designed to be like a FMQ where you can stand in front of the machine. I’m wondering if I should get that one or the standard Sew Steady.

oh my....if you have the room and the dollars, I would highly recommend getting a cabinet! I like to tell folks if you have a choice between a top of the line machine and a cabinet....get the cabinet....there will always be more top of the line machines and you will probably want to replace it....but most cabinets last forever and are so worth it....Once I got my air lift cabinet....I would never ever go without it. It has lasted me through four machines...in fact it is probably responsible for me having gone through four machines as once I got the cabinet, it made sewing so much more enjoyable. I did oops when I got the cabinet....cuz it was a big one with drop leaf behind it and I could not get it into the room I had planned to use it in....so it has been sitting in my dining room for 30 years! Yikes!

oh...I had a sew steady table for one of my travel machines...and yep...it is way better then the little plastic thingy that came with my bernina.....just my thought if your 770 machine is going to be your main machine.....the cabinets are wonderful.

I got lucky a few years back and found a steal on a Koala cabinet where my 770 sits down in. It was well worth the investment. Good luck.

I'm right there with you on the cabinet! I travel for a living and my sewing machine comes with. My shoulder/back hurts after sewing just a short period of time. But when I'm home, I can sew all day long no problems.
One of my cabinets I got for free with my machine, another one I got off of Craigslist. My sister bought one off of Facebook market place. Used cabinets are out there, just have to be patient and look.
