I just purchased a DC2010 this past weekend and feel like it's a great machine for me, a beginner (right now I'm hand piecing and hand quilting but I intend to use this machine for different things in the future). Before I purchased it, I spoke with my mother-in-law about machines since she's sewn for YEARS. She's a Bernina girl but has never heard of Janome. When I told the person at the shop that she hadn't heard of Janome, she said to ask my MIL if she'd heard of New Home since that's what Janome used to be called. She still hadn't heard of them. She did look up my machine and had good things to say about what she saw.
I saw my grandma tonight and she hadn't heard of Janome either! She has also sewn all of her life. She said, "I only know of Singer and Brother." I just thought this was interesting. |
I didn't know that Janome used to be New Home! I have a New Home serger. I think my mom only knows Singer and Kenmore. When I told my dad I bought a Husqvarna, he didn't understand why I would need a chainsaw. :-)

Ha! My husband has the chain saw and thought it would be cool if I got a matching sewing machine :)

When I went shopping for a new sewing machine about 6 years ago....I had never heard of Janome or New Home either! I was replacing my 1972 Singer Stylist. I was getting back into sewing after about a 15 year absence. I bought the Janome 9700 sew/embroid and then later, the Janome Decor 2030. I had looked at Bernina and Brother. A friend of a friend had a Janome and after talking with her, I went shopping! I have been very very happy!

I have several Janome Machines, their 1st computerized one built in the early 80's and serger plus a Kenmore witch is built with Janome guts . Love them all. want more. an embroidered machine is what I lack.. I also have a Jukie it too is old but works as new.. it is used for quilting on a frame. Free motion. Glad you like yours.

I'm a Janome girl too. I have two and a Bailey LA which is just a great big Janome. About New Home...Janome actually bought out New Home but carried both brand names for a number of years before they phased out New Home. my oldest machine actually has both names on it..circa 1991.
Congrats on your new machine, I know you will get years and years of great service out of it. |
I bought a Janome 6500 in the summer of '03, soon after I started quilting to replace a Singer "TechTronic" which I bought about 1978 I think. I had always used Singer (I've been sewing for 53 years) and had not heard of Janome until I bought mine. A great decision, I might add, as I love it!

I love Janome, too. All my machines are from janome. Can't beat them and didn't know what a good machine I had till I bought the first one. I have a serger and embroidery machine, too.

my first 'fancy' sewing machine was a Janome New Home memory craft 4000. Much to my DH disgust, I preferred to sew on my singer treadle and my featherweight 221! Now, I have a Singer 301, my 221, and a Bernina 430 on lay-a-way until August, but my daughter now owns my Janome. I think that it is 15 years old, and still going strong. She sews mostly clothes and it works great for her. It has a narrow-ish throat space and I wanted something wider so that I can FMQ.
