I would like to make a baby quilt using fleece and chenille. I have never sewed with these fabrics. I just want to make it with 4" squares sewn together. Does anyone have any tips on how to sew fleece and chenille?

I've used fleece & chenille for borders on baby blankets. While they were 4" x length/width of blanket, I didn't find either fabric to be all that different to work with. One thing I did do was pin, pin & pin some more. Don't know if that would be necessary while piecing your squares, but quite possible as you join the rows.

Walking foot would be a necessity for me. Plus the pinning.

You know, now that you mention it, I may have used a walking foot for the fleece one. These were one of my very first quilts & was just learning all the helpful tools - like the walking foot.

I just finished ( OK the binding is not on yet LOL) a quilt using fleece as the backing, used a walking foot, did not have a problem. When using chenille, you might want to turn the chenille squares in different directions, provides a little focal interest.

Thank you to those who have given me some tips! I have a Bernina 170 machine and would love to use the walking foot, however I cannot find any marking as a 1/4" guide. Since the foot is somewhat large I find it hard to sew in an even line. I did a few squares on this little quilt today and can see how useful the walking foot would be. Maybe someone has a thought on this or maybe I'm missing something on the walking foot.
