A shop near me has the perfect way to quickly make perfect HST! Sundays' Best in Ellerslie GA has their own line of stencils. Linda Camp, the owner, will happily mail you the sizes you need. Here is a link to her video. http://www.sundaybestquiltworks.com/...etriangle.html. After purchasing several sizes I now have a Pinterest board devoted to HST quilts. They are fun, quick, and eye catching!
Be sure to tell her I sent you! |
My go to HST method is magic 8, you still have to draw the X, but just once for 8 hsts.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought Bonnie Hunter was using the Doug Leko ruler to chop off the corner ahead of sewing. I just tried it on what I'm trying to do and 3 of them turned out and somehow I goofed up on the 4th one.

look for Jenny Dolan's tutorial on you tube (Missouri Star Quilt Company). She sews two squares together then cuts on two diagonals, gets 4 half square triangles. Watch her video for a much better explanation.

I love my "clearly perfect angles" . Eliminates all drawing of the line on your precut squares.

I've used Thangles too. Really like them. They have all different sizes.

It’s amazing all the different ways I can now do my HST, thanks everyone.

There is a program that helps with HST and QST. It is called Triangulations. EAsy to use and costs about $30.
