Sewing machine blues

Hi, help!! I am at Disney World, will be here until the end of the month. Then will be at other places in Fl until May. I brought a Viking 770 that is about 8 years old but has hardly been used to piece with. It is not working right, I think the timing is off..makes a noise and skips a stitch now and then. Will not work at all on the decorative stitches. Hits the plate slightly when trying. I do not know where to take it. If I was home I could go to the dealer....who knows what kind of mechanics they have. I do not want to be without a machine...money is limited because our little dog ate some plastic and had to have 2 surgeries. Costing about $3000. Grrrrr!!! He looks like he will be ok. So...does anyone in the area know of a good sewing machine Doc? My first thought was...go get a new one...but for puppy, can't do it. Thanks Carol aka Reba

Did you try changing out the needle , maybe it is bent.

Southeast of Orlando, in Wabasso (Sebastian area) is Marilou's. She is a Viking Dealer and does some of the repair work herself. You could call and see what she has to say. [TABLE="class: ts intrlu, width: 100%"]

It's on the east coast. Not Beachside, but on the other side of the intercoastal waterway. Google Maps will give you an idea.

Reba have you changed the type of thread you are using top and bottom.?

To be honest, I would buy a cheap one at Wally world, and take your machine to your dealer when you get back.

Same thread as I have always used. It was making an irritating thunking noise. The noise came in the part around the tension plates. Worked until I tried a decorative stitch...then it went bad. Noise and skipped stitches. Can not use it. Grrrr! I knew I should have brought the brother. Makes me mad...hardly used it in 8 years.

On the Husqvarna site I searched for their shops in Orlando, Florida but it won't paste the full link here. Here is a link to the page, then type in Orlando, Florida & you'll get about 4 shops with a map as well, and good luck! http://webservices.us.vsmgroup.com/D...CountryCode=US

I have a question, is it possible the reason the needle is hitting the plate is because a straight stitch plate is on the machine? I use a straight stitch plate on my Bernina when I'm piecing. I have to remember to change plates when I switch to decorative stitches. If I don't, I will break a needle and I may hurt my machine. Just a thought, hope you figure it out. I know how expensive vet care is. But at least your dog is getting better.

Boy, this sounds familiar! Been there, done that! LOL!

I have an older viking and am having tension trouble and the zig zag won't work. My repairman told me that it is probably because I rarely use the zz and buttonhole function and it is probably gunked up with old oil. He said I should run it thru the functions every time I sew or at least every other time.

Thanks for the replies. Quilter...good suggestion..I have also left a straight stitch plate on..but not on this occasion. I did consider buying one at Walmart. What I am going to do is get my daughters Viking 740 I think is the model. I will use it until I go home. Hopefully it will not break. I have had Vikings since 1976... This is the first problem I have ever had. My daughter is so busy with her 1 1/2 year twins, she does not have time to sew anything. Carol aka Reba

How frustrating to not be able to use your machine! Think the idea of using you daughters machine is probably your best bet in this situation. And I certainly understand her not having time to sew with two toddlers!
