I bought an older Pfaff just to have the walking foot. Comes in handy for Straight Line Quilting. Still like my Vikings for piecing.

I have Pfaff 2054 and 2056 plus a 1222 that I have sewed so much on that the stitch regulator is froze up. I have loved these machines and the IDT. I would seriously consider a Pfaff if you have a dealer close.

I have Vikings and bought a even feed foot and never have used it, wish I hadn't spent the $ for it for I do not need it cause the Viking you can adjust the top and bottom tenn so therefore you do not need the duel feed.

I have quilted in the ditch and never have used one.

I bought a Pfaff over ten years ago because of the dual feed system. I love it!

I know Bernina does too, but don't know which one.

Pfaff is without a doubt the best. The 75 year patent for their IDT has expired so other companies will be coming out with their version. But, for me, it's Pfaff all the way!

I agree with you. I have a Janome 6600 and a Pfaff and much prefer the Pfaff. Putting the accufeed feet on the Janome is a pain and the feet are so bulky it is harder to see the fabric. Don't get me wrong....I do love the Janome but if I had to have just one machine...it would be the Pfaff.

The Janome 6600 & 7700, and most Pfaff machines have built in dual feed. The Accufeed for the 6600 operates much like Pfaffs IDT does. Lift it up and back when you don't need it, swing it down into place when you do.
Recommend looking for an older Pfaff, their newer machines (post 2000) just aren't the same quality as the previous German-made Pfaffs were. I've heard this from SO many quilters & sewers. I also had a Pfaff made in 2006, and it was totally inferior to a Pfaff w/IDT that I had in the 90's - and was FOOLISH enough not to keep !! :(

The Juki does not have built in dual feed. You have to use a separate walking foot attachment.

I too have a Pfaff and love it. It has the smallest foot of any of them. Others are quite larger.

Bernina 820 and 830 has this feature!!

Always use my Pfaff for piecing. Best dual feed.

I have the Janome 6600 and love it. I have also noticed that on regular sewing there is much less of a problem of top vs bottom fabric feeding.

Bought first Pfaff 5 years ago and loved it, SIL needed a machine so sold her mine and bought another, still have it and love it. Bought new Pfaff Expression 4.0 last year and hated it so upgraded to the Creative 4.0 and returned it three weeks later. As much as I love the older Pfaffs I would not buy a new one made in China. Bought the Janone 6600 and really like it even though it did take some adjusting to. Still take my older Pfaff to retreats. I say if you can get an older Pfaff that would be great but if you want a machine with a large throat for a decent price get a Janome. Personally, I can't afford a Bernina.

I have a Pfaff and it has this built in. Works great. I also have the walking foot for my Bernina, it works great too. Which ever way you go, you will love the way it helps sew.

I have the Janome Horizon 7700 i purchased for 2500 with table and extenison table and i love it. The accufeed is great and i have just ordered the accufeed 1/4 inch foot and just a regular 1/4 came with it plus all the other feet . I am more than happy with it . Best dollar i ever spent. I have a Pfaff 7570 that I dearly love. I recently upgraded (kept my Pfaff) to the Babylock Serenade which is so very similar to my Pfaff. Only reason I upgraded is for the extra bells and whistles my Pfaff didn't have, longer harp, auto thread cutter, knee lift. I love it. I think it is every bit as good as my Pfaff.

I will add, I tried the new Pfaff Smarter before buying my Babylock and it was alot less machine for the same money. I will not buy the Pfaff's made in the past 10 years as I just don't think they are the same quality as the original ones made in Germany. Just my opinion.

I thought I read just the other day that the new 7700 Janome had built in even feed foot. Makes it worth looking into.

Love my Janome 6600. You do have to change the foot, but not a big deal!!

Why not leave one you already have set up with a walking foot? I leave the walking foot on my Brother 1500 and use it for bindings. I also have the Babylock Quest Plus with the built in walking foot.

Get the Pfaff. The walking foot is worth its weight in gold. I've had one for ten years and I use it nearly all the time. No need for extra walking foot that gets in the way.

I have a Pfaff and love the dual feed but if you go with a Pfaff get one with a large harp. Mine is small and can't use it for quilting larger quilts.

I have a Baby Lock Quest. It has a dual feed that you just pull down and it is ready to go. There are several feet you can use with it such as the stitch in the ditch and 1/4" foot, plus other. I love it. Quilts like a dream!

Singer Quantum L500 also has the dual feed. I don't use this machine often enough, but the dual feed just clips down when you want it in use.

I have a 830 machine that has teh duel feed built into it , and moves up ourt of the way for regular sewing,And teh 830 has a 12" harp, great for quilting . :thumbup: :thumbup: :thumbup:

I have a Phaff, and I just love it. The built-in walking foot or duel feed is super. It makes my piecing so acurate and easy. I'd have no other. Just can't use other machines any more for quilting.

I have to add my two cents regarding the older Pfaff machines. I have a Pfaff 7570 with the embroidery unit which was one of the last ones made in germany. My local Pfaff dealer tried very hard to get me to trade in my 7570 in for one of the newer Pfaffs and I resisted. I am soooooo glad I didn't let them talk me into that "upgrade". The newer Pfaffs are NOT built like the german made Pfaffs. My Pfaff sews, embroiders and quilts beautifully and ofcourse the built in dual feed in my opinion is a must have for quilters.

I love my Pfaff 7550, i’ve had it for a very long time I am sad that is in the shop and I hope it can be repaired. It started sewing in reverse .

My Elna 720 has a dual feed foot system, and it works great. You do have to attach the foot and lower the walking part down before using. It is large so I don't use it for piecing. Changing the feet on the Elna is not always ergonomic, and if you want to add the guide to the dual feed foot, you need to screw it in rather than just slide it in as with my old Viking. There's just a lot of fiddling necessary to start quilting. The Pfaff sounds a bit easier.

I bought a Janome Memory Craft 7700 used from our LQS which has a repair shop and a Janome license. Good way to upgrade machines. The accuFeed works so easily and the extra space at the throat allows the bigger quilts to fit through.

I have a Bernina 770 and it has the Dual Feed. I love it.

Janine memory craft 6600. It has - this is a slightly older.model and you lower and hook it in from the back. Nicer than the separate walking foot on my old machine but the mechanism gets in the way for other operations sometimes. My understanding is they fixed that in later models.

I have the Pfaff Quilt Expression 4.2 and love it. I bought it because of the IDT and you don't need to change anything, just make sure it's engaged with the feet. The QE4.2 also has a wide 10" space between the needle and the machine; it has lights above the 10" (the newest models have even more lights than mine); a knee press to raise the feet even higher; an automatic thread cutter (absolutely it, but sometimes I have to remove lint off the knife pad to get it working well); and an needle threader, which isn't great. Lots of choices for stitches, and #52 is much nicer than the regular straight stitch (#1) because it doesn't leave a large knot when tying off.

I have the same machine "fraydknot" has and I agree with her. It is not hard to put the foot on and I love my machine. It also has the thread cutter on it too which is a great feature.

I have the older Pfaff and love it. I use it more than my Bernina or Brother which are newer machines. I have them all set up, but will always go to the Pfaff. I also use a Singer featherweight when I am piecing.
