Sewing Machine Cost

Got to thinking about my sewing machines and how much they cost. I bought a Janome in 1993, an Innovis in 2005, and a couple of antique machines. All in all, I've averaged about $20 a month over the last 20 years, including service costs. I don't think that's bad - just one large pizza I didn't eat every month or a Starbucks Latte every week (which calories I can certainly have missed).

I haven't spent the thousands on an embroidery machine or a long-arm that I wanted to, but maybe in the future, I might.

Also, you saved in the cost of mental health therapy and a course in creativity.

What a bargain!

If they make you happy, and you have the money, have all the machines you want. I have several great machines, but I find myself wanting a new one. My last machine I bought is about 10 years old. I have Bernina, Baby Lock, and Brother. I want a Janome since I always hear such rave reviews on them.

I think you did very well. I don't know just how much I have spent. Not worth my time to try and add them up. I always say "Quilt making keeps me off the streets and out of the bars". Don't worry, I never do either one. I am at home sewing, always working on another quilt.

OH boy, isn't this the truth!?!?! Can you imagine what your therapist's bill would be if you did not have those machines? Much, much higher than $20 a month for sure.

I have often wondered if I spend more time sewing than driving ... does that justify spending/investing more on my sewing machine than my car.

I love a new machine and finding out all its stitches and problems. I buy either new manual or anything after a pfaff at present.
