Sewing machine covers
Does any one have a tutorial for making a sewing machine cover
There are several online. I'm going to make one, too, but haven't decided on which one to make or what fabric I want to use yet. Good luck!
Funny you should ask; I have just finished the photos for just that! I will let you know when I get them all posted.

Here's some instructions for making a reversible cover. I've gotten one started but haven't finished it yet.

The captions are done. You have to click on each pic or view the slideshow to read all the instructions.
Go to: Tipnut.com...........click on "sewing machine covers".........there are approx. 18 different covers with directions...........FREE

I like your beautiful picture, but how did you make it? Is there a tutorial? I have the Janome 6600 machine, and it is quite large. So the regular patterns offered won't fit.

When the picture comes up there is a little box with lines in it.... I found out if I clicked on it, I could see the written portion, thanks for all your work!

Let's say your final width is 24 and your height is 27. (these are just out of the blue numbers.) If you have a FQ you want to use and it measures 18 x 20: We need to add 2 inches to the 20" side, so sew a 2.5" strip to each 18 inch side. Now sew a 10 inch border strip to both of the 20 inch sides. When the border is folded and sewn, you will add 4.5" to each side. two sides x 4.5 inches = 9" plus the 18 inches you have on the FQ=27 inches. And you are good to go. |
I've just measured my machine from all sides and looking down from the top, made my own custom pattern. My machine has a handle on the top, so I added a cut-out space for that, put binding on the cut edges. I don't have to remove the cover if I need to move my machine off the table.
Fireworks lover, that's a good point about the handle. I will usually put in a large 'buttonhole' on the top for machines with handles, although I think binding will look extra nice!
I just made one!!! I'm sewing on the binding right now or I'd post pics. I got the tute from THIS magazine http://www.allpeoplequilt.com/magazi...ontents_1.html
It's a "Start today, finish tomorrow" project. That's a LIE. It took me a week to finish this cover and I still need to hand stitch the binding. But I love love love it! It's BEAUTIFUL pop of color on my desk. |

i made one from an old hard cover sewing machine top.it was in bad shape. just sewed fabric . measured every thing and slit a hole for the handle on top .took the bottom of fabric and wrapped it in the inside. and tacked it. did not glue so if i want to change the color of fabric i can. its very easy to do....:)
There is a pattern in the Dec/Jan issue of Quilt magazine page 92
I don't have a pattern but I made a simple cover by draping fabric over my machine and making sure to allow enough to completely cover the machine on all four sides. I then cut the fabric to size and did a zig-zag stitch around the edges to finish it off and keep the fabric from raveling. Its inexpensive, simple and easy to wash when needed. Best thing is that I can make several and change out as the seasons change!
Do have a look on the TipNut site. Ther is quite a large variety of covers, some with tutes, some just with instructions, but all very straight froward.
Really easy and lazy way to make one is to take a "recycle fabric bag" (such as you buy from store) turn it upside down, turn up bottom to outside (height of machine) put handles of bag on outside and over top and stitch in place. you can also cut hole in top for handle. It is not cute but it serves its purpose and it cheap and easy!
