Ok, I've been going thru all the sewing machine discussions here since I started quilting a few months ago.

I have a Brother basic machine I got from Wal Mart a few years ago. Its ok, but it's like sewing on a mac truck. :?

I was in Hancock Fabrics today getting a {very good deal on} a darning foot to use on my Brother so I can fmq, since the feed dogs don't drop on that machine.

Hancock has a Janome 8077 machine that is regularly $359 and on sale for $259. It has almost everything I need/want right now, as a beginner. But I didn't buy it right away - we've been putting out money left and right on things this week (big money) and I just could NOT justify getting it right now......... sigh.

I also wanted to come home and look it up on the Janome website. Um, it doesn't exist there.

Do you think this is a knockoff or a lower model that is made somewhere other than the real Janome machines are made? When I say this, I mean, I know the Bernettes are not manufactured in the same place as the Berninas (the Bernettes are made in China).

Does anyone here own a 8077? If so, how do you like it?

Sorry if this was long-winded............
Thanks!
Martha

Hi I just read your letter. I have a Bernette which I have had for about 20 years and on the bottom of it, states it was made in Japan for Bernina which are made in Switzerland. Mine is a surger, and I love it. Glenda in Texas

I have the 8077...and adore it! It's not a Bernina, Pfaff, Viking, BabyLoc...but it certainly does the job I need it to do! It's a great little machine in my opinion!

I just found this site where users rate the machines. Hope it helps.

I have the JANOME 8077 from Hancocks. Had it for over a year and let me say>>>>>> I LOVE IT!!!!!

Even my Janome dealer said he couldn't believe what a deal it was (took it in to get a foot for it. I always take a machine with so i can try on parts and save a trip if it doesn't fit.)

Also, before you buy extra feet try some of the ones you already have. A lot of the feet I already had could be used with this. Just give them a little test by turning the hand wheel so You don't break anything.

It is perfect until I can afford the Janome 6600. I say GO FOR IT.

Here is my Janome 1600 P-QC on left and Janome 8077 on right.

Check out the Bernina's. I love mine. I have a 150QE for piecing. And a 180E for machine embroidery. I wouldn't have anything else. You need a good quality machine to make good quality quilts. The stitches are always great. My longarm quilter always remarks how great my embroidery blocks are.

Thanks everyone! This helps me greatly.
I had read a bunch of reviews about the 8077 on the Hancock website - they were all positive - but I figured maybe they only posted the positive ones. I only read 2 negative ones (and there can always be a lemon in every crowd).

knlsmith - Thank you! :) You made my day.

sewcrafty - Yep, had read that one also. Thanks!

I really appreciate everyone answering. Its great to have such a wonderful resource as this forum.

Grateful in VA
Martha

No problem. I don't think any of us are too rich right now. So anytime we can help each other, I am all for it!

Have a great day!
