Sewing machine foot pedal
This probably is a no brainer for those who have solved it. But, I need help in how to keep my sewing machine pedal from scooting out from under me. I have a rug under it, but I am still always retrieving it. Please help. Thank you.

Rubber mesh matting that you use for cupboard liners. Think you can get rolls at Walmart.
|
I use a mesh placemat from the dollar store.

Good suggestions. Did you try using the search function on here? Maybe there are more suggestions.

I have used an old computer mouse pad under the foot pedal
|
I tried both the mesh and the mouse pad and now instead of the foot slipping, the pad slips!!!! I am about ready to glue the thing to the floor!
|
I use the rubber mesh shelf liner and it works fine.
|
Before you glue it to the floor . . . get yourself an over-sized, clog-type shoe. Glue the pedal to the bottom of the shoe. Slip foot into shoe, to sew! :D

Last time I had a mammogram, they used these nice little pads on the glass. When she was done, she threw it in the trash, and I hauled it out and asked if I could have it. Nice cushion on one side, and sticky on the other. It's about 8 x 10, and fits perfect for my foot pedal. No more traveling across the rug. See if your Woman's Health Center uses these. The nurse said it wasn't the first time someone asked for them.

I put a strip of thin baseboard molding between front sewing table/cabinet legs. It stops the petal from moving under the table. I like to sew with my petal under my chair, I bend my knee. It puts less stress on my foot and hip. I had a PT show me this better way for me. When I go to classes I take a Sta Put mat for the pedal. It works on carpet and bare floors.

I'd like to hear the answer to question also. I tried the mesh liner matting and it still moves also.
|
pedal Sta,have them at clotilde, connecting threads and Nancy's notions

I use a rug that goes around your toilet!! Rubber backed , foot pedal goes where toilet would be and can keep foot on other part and works great for me!! Good Luck
|
How about putting a large dot of hot glue or puffy paint on each corner of bottom of petal? Wait til cool/dry depending on method and see if that keeps it from moving?
|
Glue a Velcro strip to the bottom of your foot pedal...it helps mine.

Interesting suggestions - - - my foot pedal wanders, too.

Isn’t that what tubs of scraps, strips, and squares are for? To stack under the sewing machine cabinets to keep the foot controls from running away?

I bought a mat specially made for keeping your foot pedal in place about 5 years ago and I love it. I think I paid around $25 for it, but I didn't have to keep trying different things. It's perfect. It's plastic with some velcro on the top and I put velcro on the bottom of my foot pedal so it stays put. The bottom of the mat sticks to my carpet and doesn't move at all. Best sewing item I've bought!

I just turned my pedal upside down for my Janome until I found it much easier to use the start and stop button. For my Featherweight, I just push the foot pedal with my hand if I am sewing short pieces and using a 1/4 inch foot.

If you have a speed control on your machine, you could try putting your whole foot on the pedal, not just your toes. And take your shoe off! I usually sew shoeless, but using the whole foot I found out in the fmq book by Don Linn. He said it gives more control, and it does! Can do this on my Babylock, but not on my Kenmore. No speed control on the Kenmore.

I've got the pedal sta - but I'm on a vinyl floor using floor mats to keep the machine cabinets from digging into the floor.
One answer - Duck tape. Since I'm on a slippery plastic mat, I can tape with impunity. |
I've had the same problem and frustration for a long time and have tried everything because my foot pedal travels on the hardwood floor. I bought this today at Target (on sale) and so far so good. It's textured enough on the top that the pedal stays put and the mat doesn't slide.

I use a rubber mesh that comes on a roll and you can cut it the size you need. Doesn't solve the whole problem of slipping foot pedal but it does help some.
