Someone gave a tip on here awhile back to wet the back of the hole in the needle and thread will pull right through. I tried it and it works wonderfully!!!

Linda1 02-04-2011 05:42 PM

My Brother embroidery machine has a needle threader that works but the threader on my Janome has never worked. I can not walk, drive or sew without my glasses but I have to take them off to thread a needle.

Anna.425 02-04-2011 06:03 PM

My machine came with a needle threader and I LOVE it!

cr12cats 02-04-2011 06:06 PM

i use the long wire threader that is for the serger just bent it and come through the back and sometime use my magnefier with it.

That works for me.

bgullett 02-04-2011 06:24 PM

I loved my threader on my machine until it bent and now I cannot line it back up. Neighbor gave me some of those cheapy ones, I was so excited. I will use those!

GrandmaAva 02-04-2011 06:27 PM

My Brother has a needle threader that I love.

My granddaughter (age 9) has a Brother that threads the machine and needle all at once ! ! ! believe it or not. I've done it a couple of times, and it is wonderful ! !

jacie 02-04-2011 06:29 PM

I have poor eyesight., even with a magnifier, but the white paper behind is better than nothing. I will look for one of the little needle threaders that are mentioned here. the one on my machine works part time.........LOL jacie

sewjean 02-04-2011 06:33 PM

I use the white behind the needle too also wet the thread & needle, & anything else to get it threaded!

madamekelly 02-04-2011 06:41 PM

I love my needle threader on my machine, but for years I just kept a wire needle threader stuck to my machine with velcro, if it broke, and they do, I just stuck the piece of velcro to the new one. I also went to Walmart and got a lighted magnifying glass for $15.00

luckylindy333 02-04-2011 06:50 PM

I have two pfaff's with needle threaders and I love them...

Oh yeah! I can't make my needle threader work either. I've found that if I put saliva on the thread AND the eye of the needle, the thread goes through much easier.

I have an Imagine Wave...I don't remember any needle threader. I always use my long tweezers and have no trouble then.

My machine has a little bar on it that you pull down, run your thread in front of it and it pulls the thread through.

bjesso 02-04-2011 07:16 PM

My Singr sewing machine has a needle threader. I love it.

grammysews4u 02-04-2011 08:23 PM

how come they always work in the store before you you buy the machine. only a few times after you get it home?

I'm with you. I still haven't figured out the threader on my machine. Or maybe I just haven't been patient enough yet. Got to learn someday though.

Nanamoms 02-04-2011 08:46 PM

Here's the dummy again...LOL...when everyone is talking about the cheap little metal threaders, are yall talking about the shiny things with the little wire (kinda diamond shape) on the end and you can get about 4 for almost nothing? I use to have a really good one and lost it so I bought one of the paks of 4..they are so flimsy. I tried using one and I couldn't even get the wire to go thru the needle. I'm using Organ 75/11 needles,

Now that I've read the posts about the wetting of the thread, finger and needle, I remember doing that a couple of times.

Now if one of our Board members would just invent the perfect needle threader, we could all share in the profits and get rich...then we can buy all the machines, fabrics and notions that we want! :)

I have the same problem so I tried using the cheap silver ones but they didn't work for me but then I bought the Fons & Porters needle threaders and they work great of course they are the red ones. Hope this helps I got mine at Joanns.

Dee 02-04-2011 09:21 PM

I hold a a pc. of paper behind the needle. Ordered one from Fons and Porter with a light and it was worthless. No lite and cut the thread. I also like the thin wire threader. I can never get the machine built one to work.

Nina Baker 02-04-2011 09:54 PM

Holding a finger behind the needle makes the eye more visible. Nina

EasyPeezy 02-05-2011 09:02 AM

Maybe try a bigger needle.

Tropical 02-05-2011 09:22 AM

I have an auto threader on my machine. It is easier to do it myself. Tried the white paper behind the needle to check that out and will use that method when I need to. I have no line bi-focals too and they make doing some things harder.

Lyncat 02-05-2011 10:12 AM

Now that I'm over 50, I understand while grandma always kept me nearby when she sewed...to thread the needle for her!

twinkie 02-05-2011 12:42 PM

That is exactly what I use on my Featherweight and machines without a threader on it. Works great.

The treader on my Brother works perfectly every time!! Otherwise I'd have to ask DH to thread the needle for me.

newbee3 02-05-2011 04:25 PM

my needle threader does not work with the topstich needles it seems to work okay with the universal needle

bjesso 02-05-2011 07:52 PM

My Singer sewing machine has a needle threader. I love it. Can`t imagine being without it.It`s been in use for 4 years.

SpotMurphy 02-05-2011 08:11 PM

This works for me also. I shouldn't try to do things late at night! What works for me is wetting your finger, rubbing the back of the needle. Then the thread will slip in. Good night!

Melinda in Tulsa 02-06-2011 12:17 PM

This is very similar to the needle threader that came with my Imagine Wave. I use it on any machine that doesn't have an automatic threader.

I would place a light colored piece of paper (white or off white) behind the needle as you thread it. It helps one to see the eye of the needle better.

pegstar 02-06-2011 06:37 PM

Kris, I have a Janome too and it threads every time....my
other machines the threader never works right.

dotcomdtcm 02-06-2011 06:40 PM

I clip an LED light onto the cabinet which helps me see more clearly,.

I couldn't thread the needle without the white paper behind the needle. Makes a big difference.

gramma8 02-06-2011 09:16 PM

I have come up with a solution for threading needles. I bought a pair of magnified reading glasses. Your needle is twice as big and you don't have to worry about looking over the line on your bifocals. My machine self threader works but sometimes I have to be persistant. (if you know what I mean) So, I use my prescription glasses to walk to my sewing room, then set them in a safe place (the same everytime you sew)and slip on the reading glasses to use for sewing and for threading that doggone needle. :)

I agree with you Linda, I find it a lot easier and faster doing it myself than the one on my machine.

JoanneS 02-07-2011 04:13 PM

Someone may have already said this - and I haven't read the entire thread. Pfaff has a VERY inexpensive threader for sale that works beautifully on any machine. It comes with their sergers - but they sell it, too.
