Help! I am thinking about buying a new Bernina for myself but before I go to the store I want to know what the prices are so I don't look completely shocked when they tell me the prices, but I am unable to find any prices for Bernina sewing machines on line except for Ebay. Does anyone know of any websites that have prices?

In upstate Vermont, the Bernina 440 QE goes for $3,300.

I looked on Bernina wasn't able to find prices, am I missing something

I looked on that website but wasn't able to find the prices, am I just not looking in the right place?

It depends on what country you are in and, if in the U.S., what part of the country you are in. We pay more in the U.S. than many other countries. I don't know why, other than we WILL pay it.
Bernina will not allow their U.S. dealers to publish prices, except occasional special deals. I am in the Pacific NW (U.S.) and just received a newsletter from a Bernina dealer advertising a special price on a package: Artista 630E including a stitch regulator, walking foot for for $3199. |
I didn't think any site would have prices on them because they want you to go to a local dealer.
Try looking on eBay to get an idea of prices. Also, if people here are willing to say what they paid for machines, that would help you. My Janome Jem Platinum was $499 when I got it 4 years ago. They are now going for $439. Great little machine to take to class, very lightweight and it has 60 built in stitches. I have a Janome Memory Craft 9000 that I bought when it first came out about 12 years ago. I paid top dollar for it then because it had just come out, but that machine sells for about $1000 brand new now, if you can find them. They've had a couple of other top of the line machines come out after the 9000, so they're getting harder to find. I'm looking at a brand new Bernina 155 selling for $750. |
That's a good price, hopefully that pricing will spread to the east coast

Definitely pricey, but I love love love my Bernina |
Three years ago I bought a basic "patchwork edition" bernina for $1400. That included the walking foot, a must have for quilters, I think. I'm from central Iowa. Prices may vary over the US.
Have fun. :D |
I bought my Husquavarna (sp?), Sapphire 870, about two years ago for around $2000. It must have been a moment of madness, spending all that money. Oh well.
It's a nice machine, lots of bells and whistles, and a large throat area for quilting. BUT, there isn't a lever to raise the sewing foot. You have to tap the foot pedal. Drives me crazy! I'm forever reaching back there to lift the foot. And, I don't use it for piecing because I find it so hard to line up the fabric with the needle. Boo hoo. As I said, a moment of madness and now I'm paying for it. Serves me right. |
Never priced one, good luck.

I gave 3200 for my bernina 440 QE a year ago. It had stitch
regulator and walking foot and I bought the 1/4 inch foot. It had one but I wanted the one with the raised side. |
do you think the 440 QE is better than the 630 E, I am not sure which one to get

"Better"? Not in terms of quality, the upper end Berninas are the highest quality machines in terms of build. There are more features on the 630 than the 440 and the interface is different. Many who have purchased a 440 go on to trade in on a 630. I have the 630 and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE it. I have written a review of my machine and it is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/athomesewing/2720227176/ If money were no object, I would buy the new 820! Even then I don't think I could give up my 630! |
I would go for the 820 if money were no object but.........., thanks for the help

If you have multiple vendors in your area find out from each what their "BEST price (no BS please)" is. A good dealer will work with you. I generally don't haggle, but I have negotiated on each of my machines. Some dealers were not willing to deal and I told them that I could not do business with them. For the last machine, I had to drive a bit - but it was worth it.
