Sewing Machine Problem - Help!!
 

I have a Brother XL3750. The thread is knotting up underneath the feeder plate in the bobbin area. It looks like the thread is looping around the bobbin but does not release, hence the thread knots. I would sure appreciate some assistance - THANKS

I don't have your machine but here are a few things to try. Please excuse me if you already know to have tried some of them but I'll start at the basics since I don't know you. Rethread your whole machine, including using a different bobbin,(sometimes they don't get wound right) check the bobbin area to make sure it's clean of fuzz and also that the black part that holds bobbin is in correctly; mine was off a little once and caused all types of problems. I couldn't figure it out and then I took it out and redid it and it worked. You should also change your needle to make sure it good and it all the way. All of these things can affect it. Normally when the thread problem is under the fabric it's the top thread and if it's on top of the fabric it's the bobbin thread. Since yours is under the plate it could be either or a combination. I hope this helps and gets you back on the road to sewing quickly.

Just a couple more thoughts:

Check the bobbin area to make sure there are no small thread pieces stuck in there.

Use dental floss to clean out your tension area.

Again, I don't have your model sewing machine just passing along generic tips.

Clean the bobbin case, use a different bobbin. Change the needle and make sure it in put in right. A needle in the wrong way or one that the point is damaged will cause that problem.

this used to happen to me when there was a burr on the shuttle casing. i used a nail file to remove the burr.

This is very, very basic, but something I didn't know to do when I first started sewing, and I got thread nests there. It almost made me give up sewing. Do you know to hold the thread tails straight back behind the needle (away from you) when you first start sewing a seam? I've never seen an operator manual tell you to do this, but they should. If you are new to sewing, and no one in your immediate family sewed before you (like me in my family!), you don't know to do that!

Okay, I *think* what is happening to you happened to me a week ago. The needle thread would go down, around the bobbin, but would get stuck before it could come back up, and would make a huge nest. I had success with simply taking everything apart and cleaning EVERYTHING within reach.

Take off the needle plate, and take out the bobbin case, remove all pieces if thread in case, machine and feed dogs. Make sure to placed everything back in the correct order according to your manual, yes the order matters on brother machines, ask me how I know. Put in new needle, rethread top, rethread bobbin, try using a leader. When My machine was doing that I had put the case in wrong after I changed the needle plate.
