My machine seems to be out of alignment. It won't sew in a straight line anymore. Is this something I can adjust on my own or do I have to take it in. I have a Riccar.

I would be afraid to try fixing something like that :shock: Have you rethrteaded the machine, new bobbin, new needle ? Start with the basics first. Clean out the bobbin area REALLY well . Good luck !

I had an older singer that was doing the same thing. Turns out that I had hit something (?) and it bent the shaft just a bit.

I believe that's something for which you need to take it into the shop. The problem has to do with the feed dogs and their alignment, I think.

I agree, start with the basics, then if that doesn't work, take it to be fixed.

If none of the above works, I am afraid that it needs to be seen by a repairman. These newer machines seem to need these kind of adjustments from time to time.

I just picked mine up Saturday from the repair shop. They told me it is natural for the newer machines to need little adjustments from time-to-time. It is nothing we are doing , other than using the machine :lol: LOL That may be why they reccomend yearly turn ups

Yep, same as everyone else here. My mom just had to take her little machine in because her timing had gotten a little off and was missing stitches. These things just seem to happen!!

Thanks for all the advice. I spent a 1/2 hour on the phone with my mom last night trying every different thing. We tightened the top tension, loosened the lower, changed the foot pedal pressure. The alingment seems to be fine but now the threads are coming in an at angle. I hate to pay someone to adjust my tension but it may come to that. I hate more to be without my machine for even one single day. I am not sure how I will cope!

I would take the machine in and have it checked. Be sure you take it to a person who is professional trained to work on your brand even if you have to travel a little way. I have a machine in Houston (102) miles one way, that is being repaired. Hopefully I can get it back within the next couple of weeks.
