I have a drop in Brother machine. Step by step instructions.- Sitting in front of machine, remove cover, ( have the thread coming off the bobbin in a counter clockwise direction). Drop in bobbin, and pull loose end toward you, and to the left, around the little 'finger' and then back away from you. Close or replace cover, and hand crank (towards you) on wheel to pull thread up to needle. Try this, and if you need more help, PM me.

HI I didn't start sewing or quilting until the last 12 years and I am now 69. You are a baby. By the way, I almost left because the bobbin ran out and I had no idea how to fill it or put it back correctly also so you are in good company. LOL

I worked all my life and did not have a chance to take up sewing classes until I was 50!!!!!!!!!!

No it isn't sad just cause you are learning to sew. I just recently started learning to sew myself (shortly before my 40th birthday). Some just have the desire to learn later in life and some the bug hits them at an early age. Just enjoy yourself and do your best :) Even if at times that doesn't seem too good to you. At least you are learning.
It also depends on what job you are doing and how much time you have spare to learn to sew early in your life.

The thread in the bobbin is always counterclockwise.

generally speaking, there are usually 2 ways to insert the bobbin, and once you find out if your machine is a P or a Q, it's always easy. Just consider the thread tail as the leg of the p or the q.... one of my sewing buddies taught me this, and I have some P machines, and some Q machines..
sure made my life easier.
