I am new to the quilting board, but love reading and seeing all the beautiful work. I'm looking for a new machine, not much for quilting like everyone here. Does anyone know about Janome 3160 or Babylock Decorators Choice?

Hi there and welcome.
I don't know much about Janome, I had a small machine years ago and it worked well. I favor Baby Lock as they are user friendly. If you want a few more dec stitches and small monograms, I would go with the Quilters Choice and I love the extension tables on them. Four gals in our group have the Dec. Choice and are very pleased, 6 have Quilters Choice and they love them and we all bring them to our quilt meetings every week. I would recommend your visit both dealerships and sit down and sew. Bring flannels, denim, whatever and watch the stitching, listen to the motor. I love the thread cutter on mine, some people don't care. I also think about warranty and bonuses. Because I bought my BL at a dealer that has fabric, I get 15 per cent off everything I buy. Thread, fabrics, patterns. I didn't think I would use the dec stitches as much as I have. Oh, and ask when they have their demonstration model sales as you can save up to 30 per cent or more. The gals that have Janome love their machines too which is why you should go and sew on the machines you like. I went back and forth between Pfaff and Babylock for 3 months. I thought they would ban me but it is good for business. So good luck and let us know what you do. Please. Cindy |
I have been a Janome fan for years and will say you can never go wrong with one! However, I bought a Babylock when I decided to purchase a new machine for sewing and embroidery as it offered more features than the TOL Janome. Now I am a Babylock fan. Absolutely the most user-friendly machine I've ever had. (Still think for durability the Janome is your best bet! Too much plastic on Babylocks!)

looked at many different brands, but for the price, this one had everything that I insisted on having on a machine: needle up/down, knee lift, auto thread cutting. It also has auto threading. Walking foot came with it also. I am loving my new machine. Try the machines out. Do not pay the asking price. Have fun & enjoy whatever you get. |

Hello, and welcome.
I wore out my old Janome bottom of the line machine years ago and bought the Janome QC 6260. I absolutely love the machine. It is a workhorse and has a lot of extras- the acrylic table to extend the sewing surface, all kinds of special feet, and it freemotion quilts like a dream. But I wanted to upgrade to a longer arm machine so I just got my Janome Horizon 7700. I absolutely am in LOVE. Good luck with your choice. |
Welcome! I have a Babylock and love it. It's not the Decorator's Choice tho.
|
I have a Babylock Ellegante and 2 Berninas. Love em all! Also vintage Singer and White Rotary straight stitch.
